Root Android Market and MetroWeb Help!

Hermes92

Newbie
Alright, so here is the issue:

I rooted my phone a while back, and proceeded to root bloatware. I remember reading something about NOT removing the MetroWeb browser, so that it does not impaior the phone and mess with the Market (and whatever else I may not have noticed on my tampered-with phone). After hearinbg that, I didn't touch it (or I don't remember doing so) even though I use the Opera Browser primarily.

One day my Market starts to force close, although it still allowed me to download and update applications. I thought nothing of it, untuil my phone got to the point where it won't even let me update apps anymore. I get as far as the home screen or the My App screen when it force closes on me.

-I have MetroWeb backed up with Titanium Pro
-But that literally left me with Titanium working to reinstall MetroWeb for 13 hours straiht with no change to the program.
=-\
-I've read the forums and found a replacement browser.apk and moved it to the SD card
-Attempted to move it to the system/app folder
-And ended up getting the message that it can't be moved.
=-|
-Next tried to install it, and found a generic looking spp in my drawer,
-And THAT ends up force closing and I'm still without a fully functioning Market, AND on top of that this newly installed Browser won't move to the system/app folder.
=-(

I'm using the ES File Explorer, if that helps with the issue. =-'(
Please help!

When you start root explorer and tap on R/W at the top to be able to transfer it to system, besides that change permissions on the app, if it doesn't work.

Hes using ES file explorer. But I suggest to go with Neo and use root explorer. Its way better. I know that when you open it that theres a button saying r/o or r/w. You click it locate the file on the sdcard, move it to system/apps folder and hope it will work :D

Titanium Backup has an option to convert user apps to system apps. Open TB and find the browser app, long press it and a option screen will pop up. Just look for: convert to system app. You may then need to reboot after the change. I converted a system app to a user app this way and i put my browser app back this way. I haven't had any problems with the market or stock browser since.

Alright, so I converted the app last night and it wouldn't budge..... Not sure what to do. I even checked to make sure it was a system app before I did the battery pull this morning.

What am I doing wrong, and what should i do?

How would I be able to grab root explorer in this state?

I don't understand.

But for some reason that back-up is now gone....:mad:This phone is frustrating me....
Use your computer to download root explorer 2.17 from 4shared.com. Plug your phone into your cpu, copy the root explorer apk to your sdcard, re-download the browser apk and copy it to your sdcard. Unplug your phone then install root explorer. Open up root explorer, Make sure you hit the Mount R/W tab at the top when you open up the root explorer app, copy the browser apk and put it at: /system/app
hit paste and the browser app should stay there. Then long press on an app in that section, scoll down to the option "Permission" to see what the permission are set to ( the browser apk has to have the same permissions as all of the apps in that section) then just hit the back button. Then long press the Browser apk and set the permissions to match what the other app permissions was. Then follow the steps i said using Titanium Backup converting it to a system app. This might seem like a lot, but once you see what i'm saying, it's easy and pretty straight forward.

I followed everything, and even added a step of installing the application so that I COULD convert it into a system app.
I still can't use the market place. =-(
I have more time before it force closes on me, but I still can't actually start a download.

I
m sorry I'm responding so infrequently, I can't always get to a computer. =-(

When you rooted your phone did you install a recovery and create a backup of your flash? If so copy all your SD contents to a PC just in case and do a restore in recovery.
Or if you don't care about what's installed on you're phone atm, try flashing a custom ROM.

One more thing i thought of, did you delete the Google talk app? I did and it messed with my market til i put it back.

I couldn't create a recovery because everywhere I looked for help with making a recovery (the rotting for noobs thread on this site, for example), the insturctions didnt actually tell me anything and I got stuck downloading things I probably dont or will ever need like the ADB.

And I've never done a custom ROM before. I opted to just simply root because it sounded to me like it would be more invasive and harder to accomplish. I found the gingerbreaker and I was golden once I worked it out.

Yes! I do remember doing just that. =-(
How would I go about finding it?
That's what got your market acting crazy. The app might be in the market, if not try Googling it. Use your computer to download it just like i told you to do with the browser app. If you can't find it let me know and i will try to copy it to my sdcard and send it to you.

com.google.android.talk.apk
That's the apk I found, and when I tried to install it (using the root explorer and the ES file explorer) and it wouldn't allow me to install it. Literally it said it was not installed. Is there another back end, or would I need to find the .odex as well?

That's not it. It's just, Talk.apk and yes you probably need the odex too. Google this (Talk.apk) and the first one to come up find this line: Google talk apk and odex file needed. Click on that and the files are there. And also, did you get the broswer .odex? I don't know if it helped me, but i put it on mine anyway, i figured it couldn't hurt since things were already messed up.

I have:
I've added the .odex,
installed AND THEN moved the "Google Talk.apk" (I couldn't find a "talk.apk")to the app folder and then made sure it had the right permissions,
moved a new "browser.apk" and installed that along with the "google talk.apk",
I've converted the browser.apk into a system app

The result:
I try and download an app, get to the download confirmation screen (accept and download) and before it can even start downloading it Force Closes.

This is the 2nd time I've tried it.

Ok, this is what to do. now that you have those in place, look in BobZhome CM7 thread, he has an old market zip file. Download it and put it on your sdcard in the same place where you put the roms that you flash. Now do a fresh flash of whatever rom you use, flash the google apps zip, and flash the old market zip. Once everything gets loaded up and you hit the market app the first time, a popup box should come up an ask you: if you want to wait til you are connected to wifi hit Cancel button or if you want to continue hit Yes button. You need need to hit the Yes button right there to continue. Let me know if this works, so we can get this thing figured out.

I have no idea where to start, since I don't flash anything. =-(

I apologize for being so late to respond.

Ok lets start from the beginning. Feel free not to use my advice, but as i see it, it cant hurt.. This is an lg update tool. Download it onto a computer, follow step provided. If all goes well your om will be updated to newest version. Mobile Support

Then follow this thread to reroot your phone with recovery included. http://androidforums.com/optimus-m-...-kit-optimus-m-2-2-2-dummy-proof-3-click.html

If everything goes successfully to this point you are rooted with custom recovery. Next step is to get you into recovery mode. shut your phone off, push and hold the power, vol down, and home buttons together for about 15-20 seconds. A recovery screen should come up, make a nand backup, reboot phone.

Now let me know how things are going upto this point.
