any help pls?

I am having the same issue, it just started happening for me today. Sometimes it will say "Download Paused" or "Download Unsuccessful", but most of the time it will be stuck at "Starting Download".

Any ideas???

Same deal Herr on both my Droid and DroidX. Good to know it wasn't just me. I'll wait a few days no one NEEDS to update ;)

Exactly same shit happens to me!!

Just tried again and it seems to be working now.

EDIT: Spoke too soon; I was able to do 1 update, and now not working again. Working whenever it feels like it seems.

I'm using rooted Motorola Milestone running Android 2.1

When I try to download ANY app from Android market,it says "download unsuccesfull" or it gets stuck at "starting download".

-I have already tried to clear market's cache and data, then rebooting the phone.I've done this multiple times now,but it didn't help.

-I have even done a Factory reset, but that didn't solve the problem either. I have just lost everything (almost) on the phone. Now I have to start over with everything again... So DO NOT do the FACTORY RESET! It will most likely NOT solve the problem!!

-Some said that I just have to wait a bit more. I'm giving this a test. I'll just leave my phone and give it all night to download it.

I'm still looking for help for this problem.
If anyone knows how to solve this, please tell me.

Call a professional ... what you'll get is "Remove the battery....."

Seriously this community is very knowledgeable, the fact that so many on different carriers are experiencing the same thing at the same time, leads to the conclusion that it's the Market that is the issue. People on the Google Android Market forum are complaining so hopefully Google is aware of the issue, and the last time I looked (a few minutes ago) they hadn't disclaimed the problem so.....

There have been a few calls with customers being unable to download apps from the market... I grabbed a Demo Epic from our Closet and wasn't able to download an app using the regular mobile network BUT I was able to download one successfully using wifi... i'm not sure if this is just a problem with downloading using your wireless providers network or not but thats what it seem's like. I'll perform a few more tests and keep you guys updated with my findings.

***update***

I guess it was just a 1 time thing, because I just tried to download another app over wifi and it was unsuccessful... Seems like a nationwide android market outage to me...

This tends to happen with the market from time to time. This is the 4th time I have personally seen it happen since I got my MotoDroid in February. Just give it a couple hours and then try again.

Usually what is happening is Google is making updates to the market or their servers. typically this doesn't last more than a couple hours, but I remember one time last April (May maybe) where it lasted just shy of 24 hours.

The other thing that could be happening is a technical issue on the server side. Google is a high profile company that a lot of very sinister people look to as an "easy" target for trying to steal info or simply block traffic (DoS or DDoS anyone?)

Seeing as the market is loading just fine and there are no other issues with any of Google's other services, I would say that this is an isolated issue with the market; specifically concerning downloading apps. That said, I know that Google just recently implemented market searches into their mobile search widget. They may be optimizing the server for better search performances with this new update.

Also, I have heard rumors that Google is (or at least was) going to upgrade the market to allow for desktop searching and, ultimately, pushing apps to your phone. If they are actually working on this feature, then they may be optimizing the server to better handle such a feature.

There really are too many things that could be happening to be able to pinpoint the actual cause of this without having full access to Google's servers.

One more thing. Since there are so many people on this forum experiencing the same issue, then I would say that everyone is having this problem. This means that it is not a carrier or phone specific issue.

Again, just give it time. It will be up and running properly again soon.
