Android Market not working

I try and download an app, and all it does is hang. It says downlaoding but just does not download.

I have tried with 3 different apps. and have plenty of space. I have tried rebooting.

the arrow doesn't appear in the top menu either

any ideas?

tried a simple clearing of the Market data via Settings>Apps>Market>Clear Data?
