Help Android Market slow after 2.2 update

Has anyone experienced extremely slow download speeds from Android market after the update? It works fine when I'm on wifi, but over 3G it is painfully slow.

I have recently upgraded my Samsung Galaxy S to Android 2.2 (Froyo). I am no longer able to download via 3G in the Android Market. WiFi functions normally, but 3G took 6 hours to download a 4MB file before erroring out as "Unsuccessful."

After searching various forums, I have tried all of the following without success:

1) Clear cache and data from MARKET and DOWNLOAD MANAGER, followed by reboot. I cannot find the mentioned "Google Apps" or "Checkin Service." (No effect)

2) Uninstall MAKRET UPDATE (2.3.3), CLEAR CACHE and reboot phone. (No effect. Plus, v2.3.3. reinstalls itself within a couple of hours)

3) Log in to and out of Google Talk. (No effect)

4) Removing all the information in my gmail account. Unsync all gmail services, calendar, etc.

I have done everything short of resetting my phone back to factory and am very much hoping for another solution. Any input (aside from what I've already tried) would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

do you have the 3G status icon on the top bar.

may have 3G data turned off. will fall back to slugo extra slow data speed.

I have 3G enabled. I have tried every suggestion on every forum, including a factory reset and complete rebuild of the phone. Even Samsung tech support was stumped. The only thing that doesn't seem to work is 3G, but only in the context of market downloads.

We have the same problem...and can provide even more evidence that the problem is caused by someting in froyo for the Captivate:

My Captivate with 2.1 had a (known issue) where it powered off randomly in standby mode, so we were sent a warranty replacement. The warranty replacement phone had Froyo (2.2) already on it, and we quickly discovered the EXTREMELY poor Marketplace download performance on it. Assuming that was a hardware problem with the replcement phone, we decided to upgrade the original 2.1 phone to 2.2 as that may fix the power off problem. It seemd to fix that, but introuduced the worse (IMHO) Market 3G download problem, so we know it's a problem contained within the (official) Captivate 2.2 ROM.

I appreciate the device manufacturers and wireless carriers offering OS updates (as they didn't used to on other OS platforms), but what good are they when they have such significant problems within the updates? Surely AT&T and/or Samsung knows about this Market 3G download problem with 2.2 by now, so why isn't there a fix? Perhaps we have to wait for Gingerbread for the Captivate (and any potential new problems contained within that)?
