Help Android Market Update

I have the HTC Evo 4G and its running on Gingerbread. The market I have installed on it is still the Market 2.3 version. I have tried everything to update it. Clearing the cache and data, force stopping, hard reset, leaving the market open for 20 minutes, rebooting it, and reopening the market, and all over again.

How can I get the updated version of the market? My friend has the same phone, and he has the newer market version. I am getting really frustrated. Is there a way to update it before I turn to downloading and apk file (which I am little iffy about)?

Any help and suggestions would be great!

go to the Roms and Kernel Page and scroll down to asop roms and download gapps (best on computer) then extract the file on computer and copy the market apk over to your phone using a file manger like Astro from your phone click on the apk and select install.
