Android N will let you silence an app's notification while still letting it show in the status bar

When you dive into the app notification settings for a specific application in Android N, Google has added a new 'Show Silently' option.

If you toggle this option on, you won't get a vibrate, audio tone or peek notification alert about it, but the icon will still show up in the status bar.
