Android Newbie questions

I recently got my first android phone, a Samsung galaxy gt i9003. I have a few questions about rooting the phone.

1. Is it worth rooting the phone?
2. I believe the warranty gets void when you root the phone, so is there a way to get back to factory settings even after rooting the device so that warranty stays.
3. I do not have a Internet on my Telephone and I am basically depending on the internet of my laptop. Then, I am using Connectify to create a wifi spot and accessing internet through my mobile. Even then, i can't access some of the sites, and some apps like Dropbox. I think using tethering after rooting the phone, I can use USB to connect to the Internet from my laptop. Is that correct? In that a case, will there be any performance lag or will it be the same speed as on my laptop?

1. Depends on what you are wanting to root for, and what you use the phone for.
2. Yes it voids the warranty, usually there is a way to flash the phone back to stock if you need to. You may want to poke around in Samsung Galaxy SL - Android Forums I believe this is your phone. I do not see any posts related to root so I do not know if there has been anyone who did a stock rom dump that would allow you to flash the phone back to factory stock or not.
3. Normally tethering is done by using the data signal to the phone and allowing a laptop or desktop to use it to connect to the internet. Some apps may not be able to use the internet via wifi, for example up until recently I could not access the My Verizon app over wifi. I do not know if the dropbox app is the same way, you may still be able to go to the dropbox website.
