Help Android Noob - Trying to root and change version

Mark Dunn

Lurker
Hi guys and girls,

I recently bought a Gemini GD8 (it's appalling) but I wanted to try a cheaper android out before buying a more expensive tablet.

It's running Jellybean 4.1 and would like it to run KitKat if possible.

I've tried rooting the device but every rooting app I've tried doesn't have the GD8 listed.

When connected to my PC it shows a 2 drives (one I assume is the sd card and the other is the internal memory of the device) but I can't explore either of these, I thought they would act like an external storage device.

I also don't seem to be making the most of my SD card despite moving most apps onto it, I'm struggling for space still.

I also can't install Kodi or XMBC on the device and it simply won't stream a video from any site, it just loads and loads, and the apps all run very slowly as well. I thought 1GB ram and a quad core processor would have had no trouble doing these tasks.

Any help would be greatly appreciated (or just being told I've bought an awful device )

Welcome to our AndroidForums, Mark :).

Unfortunately, there's precious little info return from a Google search regarding root for your device :(.

Also, Android version upgrades need to be kicked-off by either the carrier/manufacturer or a set of very enterprising developers, which I'm guessing this device doesn't have.

As @mikedt indicated, it looks like an old(er) device--I'm seeing references in Google reaching back to 2013, so if there's not been additional info posted by now, there's not likely to be.

Sorry :(.

This thing really is grim and awful. The fact it's got Jellybean 4.1 indicates it's not even a recent device, Probably been sat in a warehouse in Hong Kong for 2-3 years. Unknown manufacturer, you can't do anything with it as regards updating the OS.

Thanks for your replies guys. It seems I've purchased a crap piece of old crap :D luckily it only cost me £25, I'l try and sell it on Ebay and maybe delve into the world of Android in the future with a better model (I'll probably come here and ask first :D )

Cheers guys
