Android OS killing battery life

Hi all,

If you have a Galaxy Nexus, please check the Android OS Keep awake time.

Go to Settings --> Battery --> Android OS.

Do you see your Android OS Keep awake time is high?

An wonder why ...

This is an issue going on right now. Basically, your phone is awake all those time caused by certain process on Android OS.

Users tried to hard reset and the problem still there ...

Me myself, the Android OS Keep awake was as high as 7 hours, although I did not use my phone a lot.

This is also discussed on XDA forum:

So, please, if you have this issue as well, add your comments (with screenshots) and star the below bug tracker:

Issue 22878 - android - Galaxy Nexus ICS 'Android OS' High Battery usage - Android - An Open Handset Alliance Project - Google Project Hosting

29% charge left - 1day 10h 29min on battery - 4h 20min Keep awake time

That doesn't sound bad, or is that me?

just recently woke up and unplugged, so all my data from last night is gone, but i'll post it at the end of the day.

It is normal. If you use you phone more the display will be the number one user of your battery. At idle, the OS will always be the number one user. Remember that this is just a "prcentage of use"of the battery.

I still had 50% battery left yesterday when i went to bed 14 hours after unplugging it.

Screen on time was a little over 2 hours.

looked to be asleep pretty much the entire time the screen was off, except the occasional blip (checking mail/weather/facebook/twitter/etc)

This started happening to me today. I usually get 12-18 hours of charge, but today my battery was at 12% by 3:15PM (I unplugged it at 8:30AM). I checked my battery stats and the culprit was Android OS which used 40% of my battery and kept my phone awake for 2 hours. I'm on stock 4.0.2 unrooted. Anyone else have this issue?

47% extended battery at 11 hours with Android OS 57% and Screen 15%. Sounds about right I guess although I think it could be better. Hoping 4.0.3 will improve things and 4.1 even more.

I'm having issues with the battery in a different way. It tells me there is 21-25%, I plug it it and boom, up to 42%. This is not the first time and it usually happens around 20% and then spikes back up to 40-47%.

If it weren't for this software/battery management flaw I'd be very impressed as I had a full 24 hours, downloaded almost 1GB of data and screen time through the day.

The problem I have with turning off Google's backup is it claims it will wipe your data off their servers. I'd rather my existing backups stayed there. I don't mind backing up my data occasionally, don't need to daily but don't want to wipe what I have.

All or none apparently.
