Help Android Pay

When I try to set up Android Pay, I get the message "Android Pay can't be used. Google is unable to verify that your device or the software running on it is Android compatible" Is this because my Nexus 6p Android Version 7.0 is rooted? If so is there a work-around, if not, what's wrong? Thanks.

The only way that I know of that might work is to use systemless root and use a custom kernel that hides the fact that that the bootloader is unlocked.
I thought that got patched up with the latest Pay update? Not sure as I cannot root, so I really don't keep up on it :(

I have heard that on the pixel, ElementalX kernel hides the bootloader tamper flag... This is why I said it's a maybe. It's possible that a custom kernel on other devices will work as well.
