Android tablets=fail

Ok, where are they? I sure hope they aren't out yet because that means no one is buying them.

Have you actually done any research into slates besides the iPad?

Freescale is a parts supplier. They put together a prototype to show what could be done with their equipment and Android.

Mastone picked up the contract and has started the production cycle. When will they hit market? I don't know. I expect we'll find out fairly quickly.

$200 tablet that's more powerful than the iPad... should be something to look forward to.

7 inch screen? No thanks. Look how tiny and smushed together everything looks on it. That will be a real treat trying to click a link on that thing I am sure. Might as well use my phone

My experience exactly, but if 2.7 inches is worth $400 for you... hey, that's a personal choice.

You would think, with that argument, that his phone is downright unusable.

Well heres my problem with using my Hero and its 3.2 inch screen online. If I go to a site like this with lots of links to click, you know how often I press the wrong one? Using the trackball works at times but its a pain most times. Also, for the page to display everything, the text is so tiny its barely readable unless the phone is 6 inches from your face. I can zoom in of course but then you are only looking at like 1/6 of the page and have to zoom all around just to read stuff. Believe me. Go online with the iPad for 10 minutes holding it in your hands and then try going back and using it on your phone again. Huge difference.

I think the question is how 7" isn't adequate enough for some quick browsing/reading, "iPad-like" usage?

I personally dont think its large enough. Sure, I might browse the web on it fr a bit but I am not going to watch TV shows or movies on a screen that small. Those are two things I do often on the iPad. The other thing is aside from the HP Slate, no one has really gotten their hands on a fully working tablet device supposed to be ready by summer, which tells me most of these will never even make production.

I bet if the ipad had a 7" screen mbell would say 9" was too big and clunky and 7" is perfect.

Since the ipad really isn't very portable, why wouldn't you just watch tv or movies on *gasp* a tv?

Not very portable? hmmm. It is for me. I have it in the folder/case and can tuck it under my arm and walk around with it easily. I do quite often in fact. The thing only weighs 1.5 pounds. Would have to be a pretty big wuss to get tired holding that :)

I purchased the full version of PdaNet for Mac & download PdaNet to my Droid for tethering.

The devices see each other but I can't seem to connect to the internet on the Mac...

Can someone give me some direction on this problem.

Thank you,

What happens when you drop it and shatter the screen lol. Iphones are notorious for that, a bigger screen is just a bigger target.

Yep because we all really need to be glued to a screen while were walking. That makes allot of sense

How can some bash Apple for crippling their phones and the iPad when Google is doing the same thing with tablets? In case you don't know, Google has made it so tablets and anything else running Android not a "with Google" device will not be able to access the Android market. Seriously? What good will it be to have an Android tablet if you can't access the market? The shiny widgets? What an epic fail.

Wait a minute... didn't you say in another thread that you would love for HTC and Google to make a tablet? What happened to that? Or was that just a post to pretend that you like Google and HTC?

ummm, did you not read my post? I am saying that these other tablets are not "with Google" devices which means they wont be allowed access to the app market and that is a fail. So Google needs to make one of their own, and fast.

Is he gone yet? Did it work?

This thread is about the failure of ANDROID tablets to run the ANDROID market, not a thread about iPad vs netbook. Please stay on topic :) So which one of you are gonna line up to buy an Android tablet when you cant access the market? Anyone?

At the moment I would take an archos 5 over an ipad in a heart beat. Especially if I had to pay my money to get it :D

besides, seeing as the code is open source, people can create their own market ;D

And I would still take a similarly powered, but cheaper android tablet to the ipad anyday..

now please.. give me some sauce.. err a source.

try downloading some you cant get on your leaked version of 2.1

BTW, I dont consider the Archos 5 a true tablet at 5 inches. Its just an oversized phone that doesnt make calls basically. Just like the iPad is a big iPhone right? :)

I don't consider the Archos 5 a true tablet etiher :D

And no its not an oversized phone, its an over sized media player that doesn't make calls :D

Unlike the ipad which is the same as iphone/ipod touch... I mean all three devices run on the same software.. At least the archos isn't sitting on powerful hardware with an underpowered os.

Not that you'll ever agree.
