Help Android update without service?

So I recently bought the lg optimus v after having the samsung intercept for a few months and was curious if eden though the phone is no longer im service when the update for the intercept comes will it still receive it?

I am on the virgin mobile network

I am very new to android phones so any help is greatly appreciated

Yes. So long you have it exposed to wifi with a working internet connection.
