My main reason why I like Android vs IOS is that I feel that Android has more upside in the OS category. With the impending release of ICS on the Galaxy Nexus, it really showed me that Google is committed to improving the Android OS. This alone keeps me interested in Android.

I'm not sure what Apple has up it's sleeve with Iphone 5 but if it's released with the same version of iOS that we see now with minor improvements...I will not be impressed.

Many people here root their phones to gain added features. We are not happy with the stock device so we do things to change our experience. We are already seeing information and tutorials showing users how to add the Android Market to the Kindle Fire.

The techniques I have seen explained require fancy footwork and it is not at all easy to do. You need to DL 4 different files, root your K-Fire, and do about 20 different things just to add the market we all love and use to your Fire.

So the most basic function we Android users expect is not available on a highly touted Android Device. That is, access to the Android Market. It is as though Amazon is trying to become Apple in that they want control over everything we do, like access alternative markets.

I Jailbreak my iDevices for the same reasons many here root their phones and tablets. I want far more than Apple allows.

So regardless of platform, it seems that nobody is happy with their stock devices. I can go to jailbreak me dot com and in very little time, I can JB some devices. Or use Greenpois0n or one of the other software programs to JB my iPad.

So is it really fair to tell people making these comparisons that they are wrong because when you JB, these differences disappear. Or is it fair to say, Yup, you are correct. Android is better because it is easier to customize.

I think it's fair to make comparisons without taking root/jailbreak into consideration. Even if both are easy enough to accomplish, what percent of the population actually does it? While it might seem like everyone on the specialty forums such as this do root/jailbreak, it's not really that commonplace.

As for the Kindle Fire, the thing is it's not being marketed as an Android Tablet. Sure, it runs Android under the hood, but for all intents and purposes, the platform is closer to Apple's iTunes+iPad than it is to other more "open" Android tablets.

It's not like it hasn't been said before, but asking this question on an Android forum, you should probably already know what kind of answers you're going to get.

My answer is -- they're different platforms. Apples and Oranges, so to speak. Each has strengths and weaknesses.

Apple likes to put you in a box -- and it's a beautiful, beautiful box, and, inside the box, everything works more or less flawlessly. Android gets rid of the box -- allowing more or less infinite customization and functionality that the iDevices can't pretend to have -- but, as a result, it is far less polished, and, for lack of a better term, "buggier." Apples work right out of the packaging -- but with an Android phone, it may take you weeks to get it just how you want it. Of course, that's part of the fun of it.

To be honest, I find this topic rather amusing. Why would you want to ask this type of questions in an Android forum when most, if not all, of the people here are currently using Android phones? A better topic should be something like "what feature of Android you love/hate the most", which will probably add more value to the Android community than just mindlessly bashing the Iphone. Just my 2 cents though.

Nah, I've found both Android and iOS (WP7, too) to be equally buggy.
