Help Android Virgin - Rooting Phone

Hi,

I will try to keep this brief, but before I start can I just say I am a country boy living on a farm and the equivalent of a technological invalid. I just purchased my first smart phone and I am loving it, as well as Android.

The only issue of have so far with my phone, Samsung Galaxy Gio, is that it came with a whole mess of what I now know to be 'bloat-ware'. The bloat-ware seems to be all the rubbish courtesy of my mobile provider, Optus.

My first reaction was to try to delete it, but I can't and I quickly learnt (as far as I know) the only way to remove this rubbish from my phone is to 'root' it. I am obviously hesitant about it, but I really would like to clean up my phone, and I also enjoy tinkering with things.

My question please, is does anyone know how, or be able to direct me to directions for rooting said phone? Or even better another option to remove these apps from my phone. (I am sure it is out there, and I did search the internet high and low, but I think I missed it).

I would greatly appreciate any help and sorry if this has been asked a thousand times already.

Cheers,

Nick

See the below post for the rooting instructions that I used. It works fine and takes you about 1min to complete the whole thing.

From my experience flashing custom rom is a bad way for rooting. You can lost IMEI, Non functional GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth or stuck in a bootloop logo. In simple words you can brick your phone becouse of the lack of CSC file that is not compatible with your firmware that you already have.

The best way for rooting your phone and keep your firmware untouched is this:

UNIVERSAL GINGERBREAD ROOT SAMSUNG GALAXY GT-S5570, GT-S5660, GT-S5660M, GT-S5660L, GT-S5830, GT-B7510

This is only for the people that they are using Gingerbread and can't root their phone with SuperOneClick. You can root your phone with Universal_GB_ROOT.zip file for your phone model.

Question: How do I Root Gingerbread on my phone?

Answer:

- Download the Universal_GB_ROOT.zip file and put in your SD card.
- Turn off your phone
- Make shure you start the phone like this : Hold Power Button + Home Button
- You will see your phone booting in recovery mode
- Move in the menu with the Volume - Volume + to scroll up and down and choose "apply update from sdcard" with the Home button.
- Choose your Universal_GB_ROOT.zip file that you copy in the root on the sdcard and press Home button to apply it.
- You will see a message "Install form sdcard complete".
- Then press on the "reboot system now" and you are done.
