AndroidForums.com Not Loading for Me

I have multiple houses and at each house I have different internet service. At my main house, we have Time Warner Cable for internet and have no problems with accessing any website. On the other hand, our other house has a local internet service provider that uses DSL satellites (satellite on a hill nearby, not in the atmosphere). Sometimes I can access AF but most of the time, I can't while on this.

Is there anything I can do or any similar URL that I can visit to continue visiting this website or should I contact my provider?

I can't live without ya guys while I'm on vacation

if u can access other sites i think u can easily use any proxy server ....

I tried a proxy and it worked for a while then stopped working altogether. I tried visiting websites that I knew that are usually blocked by an ISP such as the piratebay and it wasn't even blocked. I'm wondering if it's a matter of bandwidth.

Thanks Phases for the response Yes, I had trouble all weekend trying to access the site. Oddly enough, I was able to access it through my phone's Phandroid app on wifi though. I should've asked my brother, mom, and dad to try it on their computers to see if it worked there either. I'll try next weekend and let you know how that goes.

What have other people been saying, if you don't mind me asking?

It happens to me sometimes on roadrunner (time Warner cable) exact same as you have described on my laptop it just doesn't load on the phandroid app or tapatalk I have no issue. I'm using chrome and haven't bothered trying on a different browser

Oh, I forgot to say that I use Firefox as my primary browser and it doesn't work there. I also tried Chrome and it doesn't work there either so it has to be a connection issue.

Do you use any other browsers?

My dad said that he pays a little extra for a faster speed here with TW RR Cable at like 54MBps or something and that's what it says when I check it in Windows 7's Network center. And what's weirder is the fact that AF doesn't seem to be a website that uses lots of bandwidth like YouTube does and YouTube works fine for me out there.

Smaller ISPs are notorious for bad or flawed DNS listings. This seems like what is happening as the ISP is able to serve it up through the app. Try this, open a command prompt and type in "ipconfig /flushDNS" and see if that clears it up.

I thought maybe it was due to high traffic because I am usually at that other place on the weekends and holidays and during the normal daylight hours.

I too use Netflix (Android/Xbox 360/Laptop/PS3) except none of them seem to be as bad as AF's connection is.

It gets even weirder because this problem just started about a month or so ago yet I've been using AF for 13 months now.

For my Android phone connected to the wifi at the house, using the Phandroid app on my phone doesn't seem to be affected like it is on my laptop.

It would explain for my small ISP but what about for someone like Yeahha who uses a larger ISP?

DNS stands for Domain Name Service/System. It's sort of like a phonebook for the internet.

In very, basic, simplistic format, when you type a url in to the address bar of your browser and click go, that heads to your ISP DNS Servers, they tell it where abouts on the internet that site is and what the IP address is and hence how to get to it.

Some ISPs/DNS servers have better routing/are faster than others, you can try google, I use OpenDNS. It's pretty easy to set up and it would be easy try to walk you through it, but it would be handy to know what model your router is as the methods for each differ.

OK, so I didn't mean to start this firestorm. Everything said above is correct. What happens with small ISPs and DNS is this. Less popular sites on smaller ISPs (AF is popular with us, but compared to MSN, Google, etc it pales) sometimes their DNS cache (small ISP's don't usually have DNS servers themselves) get bad info in them, and this is usually passed onto the user. Usually a flush DNS works as it clears your local machine to poll a regional DNS server, when this happens, the local ISP DNS cache is refreshed as well as your local one. I worked for 6 yrs as a web site dev for a $25 billion multinational manufacturing company and this is what we had to do to get our remote salespeople to see new promotional sites. It is not necessarily DNS, it is due to caching in order to increase speed. DDOS attacks and the like can affect these local caches especially for smaller sites.

I realize that was a mouthful, (and definitely not in newb terms) so I hope you understand.

I did figure that cache had something to do with common websites like Google and Yahoo because I've seen how they load even if there is no internet access sometimes by people who use the websites regularly.

When I tried accessing the forum, I tried all of those plus using the links from Google, Bing, and Yahoo searches.

You could try this in the address bar: 173.192.24.228

That's the IP address I get for pinging www.androidforums.com
I think that would resolve any DNS issues.

^ Yeah, I just tried it now... I got a redirect saying the site was moved. Maybe it's just a setting on the web server.... which would be weird. I still get that IP through ping...
