AndyX ROM v2.4 - XWKL1 - 2.3.6 - Stable - Fast - Beautiful - Siyah 2.6.8+ - JKay

I'll give it a shot tonight Twinn my good mate. Mainly because I'm getting bored with this Checkrom beta and its lack of jkay support...and it's been a while since i've done a good ol' fullwipe!

Edit 1: 326mb and a slow server. Not an A+ start but then again, online file hosts are becoming a rare breed quickly! 49% there!

Edit 2: Done! Installing now. The installation notes are all in Spanish x.x Hopefully that's not a bad thing! Installation complete and reboot time. Pretty nifty intro! Let's hope it's not a boot loop.

Edit 3: See how I left it as a cliffhanger. Booted up fine! It's very ICS-esque! I'm loving the look and feel of it! Comes default with Siyah 2.6.8 and XXKP1 modem! They have quite a few selections for battery mods but i love the default! This is looking great so far! I'll check back later on once I've had a better play around.

Edit 4: Well it's definitely a winner! It's incredibly smooth. I'm still using GDE Launcher and I can't see a difference! I guess that's a plus and a minus. I'll definitely hang onto it until the next CheckROM beta comes out!

Pros:
- Just as fast and smooth as CheckROM (I'd say more-so?)
- Comes with very recent modem and kernel
- Overall theme looks quite nice and ICS-esque
- Integrates well with all existing apps and GDE Launcher. In particular, it fixes the scrolling issue I had with the applications interface that CheckROM could never fix!
- Comes with a slightly older version of jkay settings when everything worked (including CRT effect!)
- Updates VERY frequently (at the moment every time a new Siyah is released, and we know how quick that is!)

Cons:
- Based on TW4 so it comes with some crappy Samsung apps that require manual deletion.
- Lack of customisation/kitchen (for now). The blue is good, but i'm more of a red fan.

Cannot comment on custom boot screens nor battery life yet. I've been using it a lot the past few hours so I'll check back in a day or so on battery.

Here's a few pictures:

np mate

Battery is going very well, comparable with what I had before.

I just saw the thread for v3.1 with ICS 4.0.3, very tempted to see how far it's come!

Edit: I've convinced myself to try out AndyX ROM v3.1 tonight. I'm v.happy with this current build, but I shall see if this has the majority of ICS working. xda is no help as most people responding cannot put a decent sentence together.

Alrighty everyone I've just installed AndyX ROM v3.1 from here. Apparently I'm lucky cause ppl have been having loads of trouble just doing that!

Here's the lowdown:

- Based on Android 4.0.3 from sammobile minus the TouchWiz.
- Comes with XXLP6 modem and kernel (which I don't think I can change without things going wrong).
- Auto comes with CRT off effect for some reason.

What can I say, it's the MOST FULL ICS ROM I'VE SEEN!! It's well worth a shot. I dare say I can actually use this for everyday life! All the awesome widgets work including Gmail. The developer has definitely improved on the buggy sammobile version. It's a joy!

Here's what works so far (I'll keep updating):

- Titanium Backup/Restore (restored everything fine)
- Gmail Widget
- Contacts / Messaging / Calling etc...
- Wifi / 3G / HSDPA etc...
- SMS Backup and Restore

Here's things that happened:
- Titanium Backup caused random reboots during restore
- It's a tad laggy. Maybe it's just the interface or the fact it's still a beta rom.
- Android acore process closes a few times unexpectedly.

I need a few more hours with it so I'll play around some more, take some pics and get back to you, but it's looking promising!

Edit: Stupid acore crashing. I'm getting the feeling that restoring system data was a bad choice. Going to start over restoring only apps and app data :P I'll report back soon.

Restoring system data is always a bad choice, and definitely so when switching roms/firmware.
I never even take a system app/data backup. I just back up my own apps.
The only apps I've backed up outside of my own apps are
1. Swype (in case a rom i'm trying does not have it)
2. internet bookmarks
3. memo data

Hey guys just a quick update. All is going well on take 2! I restored only apps and data and haven't had a single crash! Having trouble with data but I reckon I just have to put some virgin apn details in.

I'm really having trouble finding things that don't work. Its great! Pics in the morning.

Alright new post and new stories to tell. Feel like a lone lab rat here!

It's much quicker to state the issues:

- Clock.apk is gone. But there's a couple of update zips which fix this issue (and a few others I was having).
- jkay settings obviously doesn't work.
- GDE Launcher struggles because it's horribly out of date. I'm sure the more mainstream alternate launchers will work fine.
- No screen capture ability! Screenshot It doesn't work either. Screenshot UX works but doesn't recognise my root access lol! Am resorting to taking photos of my phone. Pics soon.
- Not sure if this is an ICS annoyance or a ROM annoyance, but I used to be able to plug my phone to the PC and be able to connect quickly using the notification bar. Now that redirects me to two connect options without the option of actually connecting. So I have to go the long way! [/rant] :P
- Voltage Control is different. I'm guessing it's because of my generic kernel.

Did I mention that faceunlock works? It says that it's low security however :D

I have to reiterate after spending more time with it that it's a joy to have! Things just work. You have to be careful sometimes (like with titanium backup) but you won't lose any app data or sms' in the process.

Edit: Oh yeah it uses CWM Recovery app v3.10 and CWM Recovery v5.0.2.7 which is good. tbh though I like Siyah's new format better.

Edit2: Just an update on 3G/HSDPA. I entered my Virgin apn details and it works fine :D (albeit not without some fiddling)

Good to hear that u like it m8! And thx a mill for review our dear lab rat :D I`m quite extremly busy in recent days and i didnt even have time to check this rom yet... But from what you write it`s worth a try so i hope after weekend i will have some time for testing :)

just seen criskelo is working on an ICS rom, im gonna wait it out till his version methinks, by god do i hate those dock icons though

Alright time to talk about battery! So far I'm 1d 0h 4mins and several seconds into it and i'm on 46%. I've played many games of Angry Birds in the past day, used the browser, sent texts and also ran an AnTuTu Benchmark test. So I'd the battery is going pretty epic!

Im lost at this point. Are you still referring to Titaniums sys restore? If so then ignore my flea bitten ass. :-D

Merged this new post into my AndyX ICS thread. I think this thread should just be about the awesome GB version of the rom (which people should definitely try!)
