After making a joke about my phone being able to do anything including holding it up to measure the windspeed, it occurred to me that it might be possible to do so by listening into the microphone. Calibration could be done via the GPS speed simply by driving/riding around holding the phone into the airflow.
Not sure how accurate it would be, but might be a fun app.
