Anime/Manga not so ultimate otaku Lounge

Watched Blood C finally, just wish I could get the last half of the D Grayman series, Netflix only had half the episodes.

Soul Eater was cool, you'll enjoy it EM!

Fell out of touch with my anime side for a while... I've watched Elfen Lied, finished bleach, catching up with naruto, high school of the dead, dead man wonderland, and started watching soul eater last night... Anyone have any recommendations?

Definitely, Blast of Tempest for a great story, and Oh! Edo Rocket for the laughs. The language is not pg-13 but it's pretty dang funny.

Shin Sekai Yori really draws you in, the story just gets richer as it goes along.

Are these already completed?

Mononoke Hime, Akira, Paprika, Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo, and Redline are all great anime movies (albeit not very similar to the shows you listed). Tsumiki no Ie is also good, but it's only 12 minutes long so I wouldn't really call it a movie.

In the way of tv, you'd probably enjoy FLCL, Another, Mousou Dairinin, and Death Note.
(I personally didn't like that last one to be honest)

I've been reading manga instead of watching anime lately. Just got caught up with Nazo no Kanojo X, Sankarea, and Watamote.
Fun stuff :D

Thanks.. I'll check them out... I've already watched death note BTW... One of my first ever completed series... Can't remember them all :p... I'd prefer if I could find a suitable replacement for bleach or high school of the dead... Just the kind of shows I tend to get into

Try Serial Experiments Lain and Shiki both very good animes Shiki is Horror while Serial Experiments Lain is Psychological. Both have English Sub and Dub Versions to Watch :)

Ok serious question... Who else cried at the end of Elfen Lied? At tuhe time that I watched it... I weighted 250lbs, bench pressed 305lbs, could squat 465lbs, and I was one of the stars of my schools football team... Imagine a big buff football player laying on a bed with red puffy eyes crying over a "Japanese cartoon"... Lol... Not a pretty sight... But I seriously started crying haha... Please tell me I wasn't alone

Edit: not sobby crying but the ending screwed up my head lol

Elfen Lied didn't get to me too much. I was down, but not crying or anything like that.
Dennou Coil, Jin-roh (I forgot to put that in my list of good movies!), and NHK ni Youkoso all hit the mark however. Kaiba was a tear factory for me at the end of just about every episode...

Getting emotional over fiction isn't necessarily a bad thing though :)

I watched Elfen Lied all the way through based on recommendations here. It never moved me personally, perhaps because of my deep hatred for child abuse.

Others have moved me deeply and we're all different on that, so I can definitely dig the sentiment as well as very much appreciate the sharing of that. :)

Lol... It hit me hard and unexpectedly somehow... if I'd have watched it now it probably wouldnt have evoked such a strong reaction... glad to know I wasn't alone... well with similar reactions to other shows

It got to me, but it was more than just the ending. The entire concept is disturbing to say the least.

Unlike EM it is my hatred for child abuse that let it get to me.

I just finished watching Elfen Lied (first time)...sort of like the psychological horror of Gunslinger Girl mixed with some horror components of the original Helsing. Good story. None of it made me cry...just a bit intense. Lucy reminds me quite a bit of the first girl I fell for when I was 16. Beautiful inside and out, just a touch elemental sometimes. She was wonderful to be around when she was in Nyu mode.

^Nice kid. :)

Just finished watching HOTD...boobs, boobs, boobs. I've never seen so much "fan service" in one place. I hope they make a second season...kind of leaves you hanging there at the end. Almost like they ran out of money.

There's an ova/special that came out

Edit: its called "Highschool of the Dead: Drifters of the Dead" its pretty good :)

So EM, how far have you gotten in Soul Eater? If I said "FOOLS" would you get a little grin?

It's the only Saturday night anime I haven't seen (along with some Naruto), so rather than consuming it per usual, for now I'm taking an episode per week. For now lol.

Blast of Tempest, Shin Sekai Yori and The Unlimited were great series. Recommend.

I also really enjoyed the two Tower of Druaga series, great humor in parts, really laugh out loud funny, unafraid to steal from any franchise, even the old Stalag 17 movie. :D

I also enjoyed the Legend of Qin, but it ended without ending, kinda odd. Plus, it's cgi, not great on that. But an interesting story so far as it went.

Senyu has 5 minute episodes of off the wall insanity, I enjoy that quite a bit.

First time I tried Soul Eater, I didn't get it after an episode or two, so I dropped it. Now, not sure, but I think that I'm 5 or so episodes in, so I'm getting hooked.

I don't think you are supposed to "get" Soul Eater, just enjoy it!;)

Some really interesting characters come along as the series progresses.
