Help Annoying gallery problem

Hey all. Like most of you I have lots of pictures on my phone. I've just moved from an iPhone running iOS5 and liked the ability to have my pictures in my own named folders. So, I copied them from my iPhone to my Mac, put them in their folders, then copied the folders to the external memory card on my Galaxy S2 using mass storage mode. There was one main directory called 'Camera Roll' then subdirectories within that directory. When I opened the gallery app on the phone they're all mixed up in one big group. When I checked the folders they used to be in they've all gone and been moved to the DCIM folder in the camera. Is this normal? I didn't want them moved! I have over 1000 pictures and I want them organised, not by date or size but by folder. Is this not possible?

That definitely doesn't sound right. I'd go back to the Mac and check the folder structure. It doesn't sound like they were copies as files, but sync'ed ans pictures into a default folder (DCIM).

Hey mate,

We meet again, ;)

Glad you're getting to grips with everything.....I think someone may have a better answer than me than this but basically most people on here agree the stock gallery app is a bit crap. You should go onto the market place and download a new one. I think the one considered the best is called QuickPic. It will allow you to do everything you mentioned and it looks a bit more like the iPhone gallery app (if that's what you like...there are others).

I suddenly remembered that I'd used Kies (which on a mac is the worst piece of rubbish I've used for a long time) to copy the files. Just copied them again and it's exactly as it should be.

paddylaz, yeah there's going to be more than a few questions from me no doubt. Already downloaded QuickPic but not used it yet. My next question is how to hide directories/files from the phone. I've seen the '.nomedia' way which I don't like. Can't you just change the file attributes to hidden? That was the way on my Nokia N95.

Not a big Kies fan here either, but it does seem to be necessary for system updates for now.

If you want to ignore certain folders, then the '.nomedia' method will work across all applications. It tells the system not to scan the contents of that particular folder for any media files. This app can make it a bit easier.

If, however, you only want to exclude folders from the gallery, then I believe QuickPic allows you to ignore folders.

I know its not very related, but you really should try an app called QuickPic - its alot better than the stock gallery, and i think you'll find its also easier to use and sort...
