Note: This feature may not be available in some browsers.
I agree. It is Metro so it doesn't really matter, but if you were on a plan that charged per text you would be begging for this feature. You should be glad it does this.
You should be glad it does this. It is a limitation of the entire text message system on all carriers, not the phone.
The maximum charactors for an SMS message is 160. Instead of just giving you a failure message or just not allowing you to type any more it converts it to an MMS for you so that the entire message can be included.
In the cellular phone industry, mobile phones and their networks sometimes support concatenated short message service (or concatenated SMS) to overcome the limitation on the number of characters that can be sent in a single SMS text message transmission (which is usually 160). Using this method, long messages are split into smaller messages by the sending device and recombined at the receiving end. Each message is then billed separately. When the feature works properly, it is nearly transparent to the user, appearing as a single long text message. Previously, due to incompatibilities between providers and lack of support in some phone models, there was not widespread use of this feature.
In recent years, this feature has been adopted more widely. Not only do many handsets support this feature, but support for the feature also exists amongst SMS gateway providers. The way concatenation works in GSM and UMTS networks is specified in SMS Point to Point specification, 3GPP TS 23.040
In theory, the concatenated SMS may consist of up to 255 separate SMS messages that are concatenated in order to create a single long SMS message. Because of the nature of the SMS, the chance that these parts of the SMS message arrive in order is slim and therefore a strategy is implemented in order for the original long message to be reconstructed
The phone could split the sms into multiple SMS messages but why would you want to get 3 texts for one SMS?
Because I want it !!!!!!!
Under the send button there is a counter indicating how many charactors you have left for the sms, as soon as you go over 160, the sms button turns into a send MMS button.
Already know that!!!
SMS messages are ment to be small short messages, just like tweets on twitter. Something simple like "Hey where are you?" or "Are you going out to the game tonight", not a novel.
This is because you said so????![]()

Untill now you never answer my question: Any idea to fix that without installing third part apps?![]()
Download Hancent SMS. You can customize its settings in order to split the txts without having to convert it to MMS.
Downloaded Handcent which has maybe too many bells and whistles? Not like me to say that, may just take some time to get comfy with a new system. How do I shut up the stock app?
Also, has anyone tried Go SMS? Any opinions on it versus Handcent?
Thanks!
