Root Another Apps2Sd

I have been trying to get App2SD to work for ages but seem to always hit a brick wall in one way or another.

So my Setup is a HTC Desire with Ginger Villain 1.8 installed. I have partitioned my sd card so it is 3.4 data 0.5 ext3.

When I installed GV I ran the command a2sd cache2sd before any fiurther apps.

I have now reached the point were i appear to have ran out of space again but my issue is that when i mount the ext3 partition in ubuntu and look at the properties of the partition it tells me that there is only 189mb of data on it but only 9kb free overall. How does that work is there hidden files stored in the ext3 partition or is something eating my memory.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I hope i have given enough info.

cheers everyone these forums are great

(also what is the difference between cyanogenmod 7 and GV 1.9 what are the pros & cons)

How did you partition the card? What does the size of a2sd show as in the android app "quick system info"?

I used gparted in ubuntu to format the sd card. I had a sd to micro sd adapter so mounted the card directly rater than through mounting the handset.

Quick System info says

SD card storage = total 3.21Gb free 1.29 Gb
A2SD storage - total 472Mb free 7.33Mb
internal storage total 148Mb free 93.31Mb

Also what are the settings i should have for applications under the cyanogenmod category in settings?

Thanks for your help SUroot

The size looks right but free space seems high.

Install location in cm settings should be internal. External is the fat 32 partition.

Make sure all apps are on phone, move dalvik again.

Bah I read it the other way round.

Could be some orphoned objects in there perhaps.

Titanium backup
Nandroid backup
Wipe data via clockwork
Titanium restore

May clear.

did that quick system info now says

A2SD total 472 free 55.54
internal 148 free 29.51

however I haven't moved the cache over this time

I installed 80 apps in total i guess if each app is 5mb = 400 mb approx. (is this estimate about right?) this kinda makes sense i guess i was just expecting an infinite amount of storage now i had rooted.

might have to invest in a new micro sd card and make a bigger partition.

Out of interest what rom do you use SUroot? I'm thinking of switching to cyanogenmod is it worth it from GV?

Still seems high.

I have 113 Apps, 88MB internal memory USED. 295.84 of a2sd USED... Suppose it depends on the apps.

With your set up though, thats 59MB internal free, 176.16MB a2sd USED

Cant say whether CM7 is worth it from GV. I use GV and wouldnt change, but maybe thats because I have no need.

The A2SD storage still feels too low. I have 113 apps and the A2SD is used less than 300MB.

Edit: LOL, I posted without refreshing this topic... :)

so where do you guys think I should go from here? as apparently I am way of the mark in comparison.

Shall I just start over and install 1.9 and see what happens? Anything i should check in gv before i start installing apps on the fresh install?
