Help Another Battery Issue

Morning all

I am very new to Android, having been an iPhone user for a few years.

I took the plunge and opted for a SGS2 when I was due for an upgrade. Currently had the phone for a week...

First impressions are really good, enjoying the phone and OS, would do so more if I had more battery!

Being a Android novice (but by no means a technical recluse) it took me a few days to get used to the system and experimenting with different setting etc...

However, after a week my battery life is terrible. After full charge I am lucky if it lasts more than 6-7h with light use. I have tried everything. I purchased Juice Defender Ultimate so I could manage peak and night schedules to try and save as much battery as possible, doesnt seem to work.

I only have one main widget running (skynews) and the weather app syncing every 6h. I have opted for a darker background to help the brightness of the screen and have the brightness set rather low.

I also have Juice Defender Ultimate set up so WiFi is off when not in use.

I feel a bit let down by Samsung on this one, why should so many of this phones features have to be turned off to conserve battery? same with the screen, such a fantasic screen but I cannot enjoy using it as my brightness is set low :(

I have been through several other threads regarding this issue but cannot seem to find anything that works.

Screen shot of battery use attached.

The OS and System are taking up the most battery, any way to shrink this down further??

Anyone have any advice??

Thanks,
Shakey

I also just switched from iOS and feel your pain regarding battery life.

You might need to kill 'wifi sharing'. This randomly starts itself for no apparent reason, with no apparent benefit and simply destroys battery life.

Thanks macca_macca.

How do you kill the app? cant seem to locate it within the task manager.

I am just reading through the reems of threads on Rooting and changing ROMS, thinking of trying the Villan one to see if this improves things.

Decided to install VillianROM.

Batterys looking better already lol :)
+1 for Villian ROM (in the absence of Cyanogen)

As you are rooted... install Titanium Backup Pro from the Market... select Backup/Restore > Menu > Batch > RUN Backup all user app's + system data.

When that is complete... go back to Backup/Restore and go down the list to Wi-Fi sharing and Wi-Fi sharing manager and touch quickly once and select "Freeze" from the pop-up menu as I found that these 2 items consume a lot of battery power and I do not use them. Freezing does not uninstall them but simply stops them working.

You can go down the list and do this with any other bloatware that you do not require... if you make a mistake you can go back and "Defrost" the app.

Hope this helps. :D
