Another Bootloader from Hades Story

Bad Wool

Lurker
Help me Obi-Droid, Help me!

I have a Motorola Droid, A855 model (bone stock, unrooted). Been a good and reliable phone for the last 16 months. That all changed yesterday afternoon - my phone frozen on me and would not respond to repeated attempts to power it down, so I finally popped the battery out. When I put it back together and powered up my phone, I found myself faced with the following:

Bootloader
2C.7C

Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
Data Cable

Some perplexing expletives and failed retries latter I realized I had a real quandry. I then did what any halfwit with tech support on their resume would do.........started to research on-line what was happening and how to beat it. Well so far I have done half the job and researched away. The beating it is the half I have yet to complete.

Given what I have researched based on my Droid's symptoms, I would be losing any data not already on my SD card so I jumped in and tried doing the factory hard reset. Along with the blue text showing me the options of reboot system now, apply sdcard...., wipe data/factory reset....., I am also getting yellow text further down that says:

E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

Can't imagine that is a good sign.

When I select wipe date/factory reset the phone will show the following:

-- Wiping data...
Performing BP clear...
E:finished unsuspend
E:from flash to normal mode
E:Open dev (repeats this multiple times)
E:Reached max number of retries, giving up...
E:Failed to init the engine! aux_status = 1.
BP clear failed.
Formatting DATA:...
Formatting CACHE...
Data wipe complete.

After this I prompt the phone to reboot the system and it returns to the Bootloader screen indicated above.

Since that wasn't working, I decided I might as well do this Flashing I was reading so much about.
I downloaded RSD Lite 4.6 and the correct drivers and SBF file.
I follow the instructions and I get all the way to 99% complete when it errors out and says:

Failed flashing process. Failing flashing process. Phone [0000]: Error switching phone to BP Pass through mode 90x70BE); phone connected

Just to rule out any possible doubts, I tried both SBF files currently linked in the forums I have read.

So.........which WTF am I looking at here? Can anyone offer anything else I can try or have I exhausted the known remedies and should concede victory to the Brick Fairies...........
