Another data issue

Hi all, i'm new to android forums and have looked through many threads now with similar issues but none quite hit the nail on the head. All of a sudden my data connection has gone. If i long press the side button it tells me that my data network mode is deactivated and if i press it i just go back to my homescreen. In my settings I attempt to turn on data packet but it merely checks it then just unchecks when i come out of settings. I've tried everything but nothing seems to be working! So frustrated its untrue! Even if i slide down the notifications bar from the top and press data nothing happens.
