Another Dummy failed root

AusKarlos

Lurker
Hey guys i followed Rooting Galaxy S2 - A Dummies Guide to the letter, It was easy and straight forward to follow and had no problems understanding it.. Im very tech minded with a lot of things but this is my first attempt at rooting my phone and it failed.

Phone - S2 I9100T (Vodaphone)
PDA I9100TDULPB
PHONE I9100TDULP4
CSC I9100TVAULP8

I downloaded CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXX_LPB-v5.2-CWM5.zip from the website followed all the instructions went to flash the phone, sucess and then it rebooted. Showed the S2 boot logo (with the Yellow triangle) then it turned off... Tried again, same thing as soon as it boots it turns off.
I was able to access the recovery console, cleared caches as well as wipe dalvik cache, rebooted and nothing.. Same thing happened..
Entered the download mode again and attempted to flash the phone again. Sucess on the flash but still crashes on boot.

So i reverted back to the original firmware from SamMobile and restored it. Which worked so im back to square 1.

So can anyone help me out.. Did i mess up the custom firmware?

Hello and welcome to Android Forums AusKarlos! :)

Could you post your original, stock, kernel details.

Thanks for the Reply.

Andriod Version - 4.0.3
Kernel - 3.0.15-I9100TDULPB-CL710191 dpi@DELL154 #3
Build - IML74K.DULPB

This is deja vu!

A few weeks ago I had this self same question about rooting the, "T", variant on Vodafone Australia with android 4.0.4 firmware and the DULPB kernel, here.

Lets start at post #9...

There are 2 LPB, CF-Root kernels. Have you tried flashing the other version?

Failing that, you could try this LPH kernel which may do the trick.

Ok thanks. As this is a slightly different firmware version than the one i was downloading whats the risk of this bricking the phone. If it has the same amount of chance as installing the correct custom firmware i'll give it a go.

It will not, "brick", your phone. It will be no worse than the 2 versions of the kernel that you have already tried. At worst, you can always flash the stock Samsung firmware for your model and CSC code, to restore it to its un-rooted state. It sometimes happens that the direct version of CF-Root kernel is not compatible and, as mentioned in the first post, you may need to move up one level.

Same issue with this kernel. Flashes fine but crashes on boot.
Just throwing it out there. Upon booting with stock the boot sceen is interupted by a Vodaphone intro. Which once its done it song and dance the phone contiunes to load. Could this be whats causing the crash? The custom kerel fails to load the intro?
Can the logo be removed

This is proving a stubborn one to root. I do not think that it is the Vodafone boot screen causing the problems but rather an incompatibility with the CF-Root kernels.

There is a way, once you have flashed your stock, Vodafone, firmware back on, of rooting without using the CF-Root kernel. Several posters have had success with this...

[GUIDE] ROOT/UNROOT Stock ICS Firmware without flashing unsecure kernel - xda-developers

Might be worth giving it a go!

So if i try this method will i be able to install ROMs? As im still learning more about the kernels, ROMs and rooting. I have seen some ROMs require a certain kerels to run.

I see no reason, once you have successfully rooted, why you cannot flash that ROM to your phone as it comes with a CF-Root kernel that is compatible with it.

Bear in mind that after flashing that ROM, as you have the, "T", variant, you will need to flash the, "T", modem if you are on a network that uses this.

For more details of, "T", modems and how to download and install, see here:_
