Another Feature, I knew Not Of, Again.

I know for certain that none of my other phones did that.

It should have worked on other phones. Plugging your phone into the auxiliary jack is just like plugging in a set of headphones. You're just using your car stereo (as an amp) and the speakers instead of the headphone speakers.

Difference with the Eris is you were using it at the time as either an MP3 player or playing Pandora or I(Heart)Radio... which allowed you to discover this feature. I'm guessing your old phone either didn't have an MP3 player or if it did, it blocked calls while you were using that feature. But trust me, if you had plugged in a flip phone or basic phone in and used the Auxiliary button on the radio for a call it would work (keeping in mind that you'd still have to have the phone open so the mic. could pick up your voice.

Now another great thing to keep in mind is if you get a new car (or radio) with Bluetooth capability is that you can match that to your Eris. Then all this can be done wirelessly instead of through the auxiliary jack.

Even without 2.1, I still love this phone.

So the phone's mic stays activated with regular headphones? Don't you still need one with a mic?

Why is this a surprise? If it can play music through your car speakers, why wouldn't it be able to play a caller's voice? The same goes for hooking up to your car's multimedia system via bluetooth.

Take this from an Electrical Engineer, regardless of anyone's personal experience or feelings, it's a technological fact that the other party will always hear an echo. It can not be avoided without built in echo cancellation, which the Eris does not have.

I am not an electrical engineer but this works without an echo. I have tried this numerous times today with different people and they all can hear me without an echo coming from me or them. I understand the principle of which you stated but it may depend on other variables such as volume, speaker placement and phone placement in the car because I disproved your "technological fact" 4 times today.

Good to know. I don't have an aux input in my car and never thought about getting the tape deck hook up (yes I have a tape deck in my car, and a cd player). My wife just left for the store, I am going to have her pick me up a cassette adapter right now.

The part about it playing through the speakers is no surprise, I expected that. But the fact that I can talk back without using a bluetooth, or having the phone held up close to my mouth was the surprise.

Actually, the Eris does have echo cancellation. Its been on the phone since day one as an option for people with hearing aids. You'd think an "electrical engineer" would take the time to make sure they knew what they were talking about before telling the whole world this method doesn't work.

BTW, it works just fine.

Awesome feature...used it twice today with two different people for over 20 minutes each...not one complaint in either direction.

While we are on the subject of Aux hook-up with your phone....I was waiting to pick someone up, so I wasted time playing with my droid. Still hooked to my car stereo from the phone call I started up Flixster and watched previews for upcoming movies. Almost 5.1 sound...LOVED IT!

Good to hear (read)..
Seems like the 'echo' thing is only happening for a select few. I continue to use it with zero complaints......other than from my toddler in the car, wondering why the car keeps talking to us, and why I keep talking back.

Awesome find! I tried it with my phone, called my son (he has a DARE) and it worked fine. He said I sounded like I was on a speaker phone. I tried it with my husband and his Droid and there was no echoing between any of us. Plus it worked with the phone just sitting on the seat and they could hear me fine.

I have been told by several people that they hear their own voice echoed when they talk to me, some of them noticeably distracted by it. This is when I am using the phone as "a phone" held up to my ear.
Do you think the hearing-aid setting would improve this?
How about the voice privacy?
Has anyone else found a way to fix this?
I was hoping it was the radio, but it has happened with a couple different ones, so I don't think that is it.
