Root Another internal memory problem

Thanks to the endless patience of SuRoot and others I've rooted my Desire, partitioned the SD card and flashed Gingervillian, run Terminal Emulator and got internal memory to about 75mb. However when I installed Google Earth it's put an application on the SD card of 20mb but the internal memory has also still gone down by 20mb. Loaded a couple of widgets and it's gone down again. Same with Angry Birds, 26mb on card but internal gone down by about the same. I realise that some part of the app might stay on internal memory but it seems to be duplicating the memory usage. Is this right or have I have missed/messed something? Thanks

Ran Terminal Emulator as per SuRoot's guide on A2sd which I think should have moved the dalvick cache. Also looking at some other posts on this topic people seem to be getting over 100mb free. Feeling a bit hard done by:(

If su cachesd didn't change the free memory, dalvik was already moved.

Use root explorer or similar to browse sd-ext and see if dalvik is there

as your a bit more experienced now, you could s-off and install a different hboot table from alpharev to gain some more space from system? The s-off procedure is easier than rooting imo. Only a suggestion, don't risk it if your not comfortable with it.

Thanks for the suggestions. Used Root Browser and the Dalvick cache is in sd-ext (141mb used, 843mb free). I think I'll look into the s-off and table options, I'm starting to understand what they're about as I read into it.
1) On the Alpharev site it says 'AlphaRev 1.8 is now deprecated software. If at all possible, use Revolutionary instead' but from the link to Revolutionary it says 'This software is a developer preview.... bugs could still be present! If you're willing to accept the risks anyway..' Is Alpharev still current?
2) If I do s-off and load a new hboot table would I need to reflash the ROM?
3) I'm still unclear as to why apps are taking the same space from the sd card as well as the internal memory. Anybody any ideas? I'd appreciate help as I'm back down to 16mb again :(

I think its coincidence that its the same amount. The biggest parts are the apk and dalvik cache. Can't really say if what you have left looks right or not as I don't know what you've got.

That said, to fill internal memory with apps and only used 150MB of ext sounds not right.

There are other things taking up that space in /data/data such as sms, emails, contacts. Full exploration would be needed to really see what's what

Using Root Browser it shows the SD-ext has dalvick cache folder but it appears that /cache on the internal memory also has a dalvick folder. I'm thinking of using nandroid to return the phone to basic unrooted state then s-off and new hboot table and re-flashing GingerVillian. I'm going to wait a while as I've ordered a 32mb SD card so I'll get that installed and partitioned before proceeding.

I really appreciate the help and may re-open this when I've got my head full of s-off and hboot routines. Any guidance on whether Alpharev 1.8 or Revolutionary is best? Many of the guides, especially on xda forums, are from 2010 with 800 pages to try and wade through for info.
