Another member leaving Samsung for HTC

I've been a Samsung user since the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy S2 which was back in 2011. I really love my Note 3 and plan on keeping it until the Note 4 or better is released but for a day to day phone I'm going to go with the HTC One (M8), The M8 intrigues me with those Boomsound stereo speakers and its softly curved aluminium body. Samsung has made very few changes other than processors since the S2 and frankly I'm getting bored with that design theme. It will be strange using SENSE UI after years of Touchwiz but I look forward to the challenge and of course the support from my fellow Android Forum members.

Samsung lost my love after the s3.
If money was no object I'd be torn between the m8 and g2 right now :)

I don't have any particular love for any manufacturer, and always look at everything that is available. That said if I were going to buy a new phone right now (which I am not even considering) it would be the S5. The new HTC adding microSD helps, but it still doesn't have a removable battery, so that would tip the scale in favor of the S5.

I have a different experience. I replaced a broken Motorola Razor HD with a S4. I absolutely HATED the gimmicks, the silly hand waving ability, heck, about everything except the quality of the screen. This weekend I compared the S5 with the HTC and again, the S5 had a host of silly 'abilities' perhaps attractive to children but of little interest to adults. The thing was bloated with a gazillion unwanted apps, and was plastic. The HTC was vastly superior and will be my next phone at the end of the month.

Why would anyone think we want all that bloat? Provide me with two...a link to your carrier and the Play Store....

Not all of them are bloat. I think that if you didn't include a phone dialer, and instead left people to find one in the Play Store, that might have an impact on sales ;)

I don't care about gimmicky features, either, but I don't see that as a reason not to buy a phone. Just don't use them.

Sense is so much better than TouchWiz. I'm a stock android kind of guy but if I had to have a maker skin I would choose sense.

Good luck to yah! Not sarcasm. I may be bound to the galaxy s5 coming to virgin mobile. Just simply cannot beat that monthly price. But more selection of high end devices would be fantastic. Off subject i personally think vm and other mvnos should go a route of 2 high end devices (2 android and usually iphone is the norm..) 2 mid and a the normal low ends...

But yeah! I saw reviews for the m8 and everyones bashing the cam... i thought it looked very nice. Im no photographer so i dont need to select a depth of field after ive taken a photo... no software can totally fix that anyways haha. Im no fanboy but i guess ive gotta look for more reviews on s5 as well..

Since I moved from an HTC Desire Z to a Samsung Galaxy S3, I really missed the Sense clock widget, Twitter widget and Calendar widget. I've found similar widgets, but they just weren't as good. Close, but not quite.

boyo how "hackable" is the s5 mate? Do you know if it has a custom recovery yet?

This is a good question as I do not know as of yet. If it's around it'll be the first device I actually root because the touch wiz ui is getting revamped and its a gross amount of bloatware making the s5 no better than the s3 with all the additions..

Definitely lol. I just couldn't use a phone with any TW on it now.
Just debloating wouldn't be enough for me. I'd need to put an aosp rom on and then that's a waste of money imo, I'd be as well just getting a nexus

+1

Why buy a top phone like that if you'll just put aosp on it, me however I just don't care for Samsung anymore and don't plan on buying it lol

Yeah just grab a nexus or like me pick up a Moto g/x. Pretty damned good minus the lack of storage :p

I chat to a few guys who have moved on from the s3 to the LG G2, obviously rooted and flashed it straight away. They call it the big boys nexus 5 lol :D

That is very very true.

Only bad thing the g2 is somewhat easy to brick. I found that out the hard way lol hence me using a Moto G now :p

IBT been working with me to get it unbricked. Just about there :D

OUCH mate. Yeah that's the risk of being a pioneer lol :(
How bricked is she? I've been watching peeps go through the rooting/flashing recovery and it seems pretty complex compared to Samsung for example

To the point of where I didn't even have a recovery or download mode, went directly to fastboot USB mode leaving me to adb some files to get download mode running again.

I gave my shot too. Haven't yet bricked my G2. Moto G, don't see a point in rooting.
To the OP, having used phones or tablets from most of the big guys, have to say I'm pretty much brand agnostic. They're all great in my eyes, it's just picking that one feature that is the most important to you.

As a modder I don't like how Samsung are locking things down. Even just as an average user I don't like their proprietary nature or their bloated firmware.
With the s1,s2,s3,note they made ground breaking hardware but the other manufacturers have caught up now.
I'm usually a loyal shopper but Samsung never gained that loyalty from me :)

I've always been a huge Samsung and HTC fan, but how Samsung have went with the s4 and s5 with Knox etc just has me completely uninterested.

Granted I loved my s3, I can't justify buying another top Samsung with all they throw in with their bloat and now knoxing it down.

If I move away from my Moto G, I'll liable to buy the one m8 or even the LG G3 when it launches

I'm a huge rooter/modder, had I known the Verizon Moto G was locked down tight before I bought it, wouldn't have :banghead:

My other half bought it for me without me knowing. Otherwise I would've bought the 16gb outright or at least the boost mobile version, that one's got root.

Otherwise not having root access, no complaints really with the device.
