Help Another Sync with Outlook Thread

Any CompanionLink users. How is synching working for you? It has worked perfect so far, except I deleted a bunch of contacts on Outlook and they are still in Deja Office

I have all google synch turned off as far as I can tell.

I've definitely been using it. NO problems except the above with contacts. I deleted a contact on Google to make sure that wasn't it. I have turned off synch with Android contacts, so I don't know why all the contacts I deleted in Outlook are still on Deja. All other deletions have worked in both directions.

I was blown away when I tried to sync outlook with my X. I had trouble with my Droid Incredible and returned it for an X. The Dinc came with HTC sync which worked perfectly in syncing with the PIM features of outlook on my desktop.

I didn't even consider checking on Outlook sync as I was a Palm user for 10+ years before jumping to my Incredible and it had it so I just sort of assumed that the X would as well.

This is a huge negative on the Android OS IMHO and google, just like microsoft, needs to learn that there ARE other players in the market and they should co-exist for the benefit of their customers.

I may return my X for this very reason.

dbvirago, why don't you give it a shot? CompanionLink is completely free for 14 days, and one of the only solutions that supports contacts, calendar, tasks and notes direct over USB. We update both the PC software and our Android app DejaOffice on almost a weekly basis, so there's a good chance we have already fixed many of the issues reported in earlier reviews. It doesn't hurt to try! www.companionlink.com/android
This is the answer I have been looking for. I just hope it works. All I really have to sync is my calendar and contacts. I am a former WinMo then BB user and am used to an easy to use product. I gave up on BB after the shafting that RIM gave the Storm2 users. How will compatibility with 2.2 be? Any problems with using Win 7 64bit?

I
When I switched to Android I tried to do what you want to do for a couple months. I was used to outlook and wanted to continue using it.

But, I can tell you; its not worth it. Outlook has no future.

I ended up exporting all my outlook contacts and calendar stuff to GMAIL's equivalent (its not hard to do a one time export/import); then I never opened outlook again.

You will never realize the smooth google experience if you cling to outlook. Bite the bullet; put everything in gmail/calendr ; you will not be sorry.

This is the same conclusion I'm coming to. My only problem now is that google groups in contacts are not syncing with Droid X. Also Stood X groups are not syncing with google. Any solutions?

Hi HES,

CompanionLink is fully compatible with Windows 7 64-bit. We support USB sync with Android 2.2 in DejaOffice 1.6.2, which is available on the Android Market or at www.dejaoffice.com

Hi dbvirago,

In CompanionLink, look in the Outlook Settings panel. Under the Applications tab, you'll find the option (Primary Database) that lets you designate if deletions are synchronized.

I installed Google Calendar Sync on my Droid X about 10 days ago. It has not been very consistent. To replace it with CompanionLink, do I need to de-install Google Calendar Sync? Anything else that I need to know to get it to work in my environment (Win 7, POP3 email from Comcast)?

Thanks,
Rich

Hi Rich,

Yes, you'll want to uninstall (or just refrain from using) Google Calendar Sync before installing CompanionLink. You shouldn't have to change anything on your Droid if it's already syncing with your Google calendar. Just configure CompanionLink with your Google account settings and you're good to go!

Thanks, Kaena. Last night, I deinstalled Google Calendar Sync and then installed the trial version of CompanionLink. So far, so good.

I started the process by reinstalling Google Calendar Sync to measure its performance. I discovered that it did not pick up recurring meetings from my Outlook calendar. One-time meetings all showed up on the X, but not long-standing, weekly meetings. I then de-installed Google Calendar Sync and installed CompanionLink. It picked up all of my meetings from Outlook. Like I said: So far, so good.

On my desktop, I run Win7 and Outlook 2007. I set CompanionLink to sync wirelessly, not via USB. My calendar and contacts seem to have synced fine. I don't use Tasks or Notes, so I have no info to report about those. If I don't encounter problems in the next few weeks, the $40 for CompanionLink will be well worth it. I am not interested in transitioning from Outlook to the corresponding Google products.

Thanks again to Kaena and all who shared their comments. --Rich

I'm getting my Droid X in a couple of weeks so I decided to try out gSyncIt today and it didn't do a good job with my calendar. It added my husband's birthday in two different months. That didn't give me much confidence.

I have a question - on the Droid X, can you pull in Calendar and/or Contacts from multiple gmail accounts? I ask because I'm trying to figure out how to share Contacts/Calendar with my husband. If we give up Outlook, I'll want some way to share the google PDA apps with him.

I'll try CompanionLink and see if it syncs any better. Can you sync to multiple gmail accounts from CompanionLink the way you can with gSyncIt?

Yep, that was checked. After many syncs, those contacts are still on the droid. In case I missed something, I have deleted them from the android app and google. I'm in the process of deleting them one at a time from deja as I don't see any other option.

You may want to try the purge & reload option in CompanionLink - this will wipe your device clean and do a fresh sync from Outlook. We also offer free technical support, feel free to shoot us an email or give us a call. Here's the contact info for support - www.companionlink.com/support/contact.html

My problem as well!! Was on a Palm for years and most recently a Blackberry. Both synced perfectly with Outlook. I am having the same problem that you are having. A partial workaround for the calendar is to use Google calendar sync with Outlook which then remotely syncs with the Droid calendar.Usually works but is clunky (for me anyway) Love this DroidX but this seems to me also a basic function that should be working better.

Don't know that it's worth that much trouble as these are the only records that seem to not sync.

I do have some other feedback however. When I click on the synch icon ot the droid, it says click here after PC sync complete, but most of the time, I get no feedback on the PC. If I click on the CL icon on the pc, I either get a progress bar that I would have expected to get without clicking on it, or a message saying to start the sync on the droid, or the program crashes and I start over.

Also, after the last update, I have to click on 'allow a program to... ' in outlook three times per each sync

Yes, I have a new Samsung Captivate moving from a BB Bold. Like you I have had, Palm, Treos, Iphone and BB. Outlook Calendars, contacts, notes and Task are a must! Exspected end of story...Therefore,
Just installed the trial version of CompanionLink USB a couple of days ago. Having major problems with synching to Outlook. For some reason, I am able to sync but, it's all old files of Outlook, ie., syncs old Task, old Notes, old Contacts and no calendar at ALL. To make it even more frustrating, did not know where to "USB settings" found out by trial and error it should be set to "Mass Storage". Also, found the tip on CompanionLinks website just by accident. That should have been clearly communicated in Setup.

Customer support by telephone was pretty useless 24 hours ago. Nice guy but I knew more than he did. He assigned me a trouble ticket and said Escalation tech would call me. That's been 24 hrs ago! Unacceptable.

I like you said earlier don't understand why Treo, Palm, BB and Iphone can all perform the sych with outlook and my new droid OS just can seem to make this seamless for the end user. Oh, I get it I need to tie myself to Google and the cloud, right? I love Google, but...Come on can't you guys play nice together...Microsoft and Google. Lastly, I am willing to spend the $$$ to impliment working solution with a customer support center that cares...

On the old files part, a lot of times when you add or change programs on the Palm, it would create a different set of files under different names, i.e. tasks vs to-dos. I would figure out where and how the data on the computer is and clean that up, then wipe out the Deja Office data and start over.

You did get Deja Office, right? Part of the problem is there are a lot options and if you start off wrong it's hard to get back on track.

On the USB, it's the Charge Only choice you want. Counter-Intuitive, but it works.

Meanwhile, go here. DejaOffice Classroom - Contacts, Calendar, Tasks and Notes Apps for Android, iPhone, and iPad

They also have a pretty good forum.

That's exactly the issue. My Outlook has mutlitple files for instance in MY Calendars there is just "calendar" then there is MULTIPLE PERSONAL CALENDARS. The data I need synched is obviously in the "calendar" folder. I have to figure out away to clean my Outlook up with common files/folders to synch.

My issues is fixable and I would be on my way to purchase of the evaluation copy. It's not the money trust me...

A little assist from CompanionLink would be FANTASTIC. Answer the phones for a live conversation for heaven sakes....

Hi Hammerhead,

Sorry about the trouble getting a hold of tech support. We have been slammed this past week with calls - a combination of the Droid 2, Xperia X10, Dell Streak and BlackBerry Torch all launching within a few days of each other. To further compound the problem, RIM caught everyone by surprise when they released BlackBerry Desktop 6 last week without telling anyone add-in support was removed (if you're interested, read the whole saga).

Back to your Outlook folder issue, there is an option in CompanionLink to sync subfolders, but I think you're on the right track in consolidating your calendars.

I would encourage you to give support a call next week when things calm down a bit. If you still get any trouble, send me a PM or an email and I'll take care of you.

Also, thanks dbvirago for mentioning the DejaOffice Classroom! It's a great resource if you're just getting started with DejaOffice.

So has everyone syncing Outlook with the DX decided that CompanionLink and DejaOffice is the solution? I tried the Google Calendar synch (since I was happy just moving my contacts over once and adding more on the phone only) but it's not working with my 64-bit version of Win7. Nice touch Google! Did that whole 64-bit OS thing sneak up on ya?

I've tried CL and DO and had some luck but it make tons of duplicate entries in my calendar. I'm dying for a solution as we use Outlook at my office without Exchange.
