Help Another thread about Reboot Loop.

BR1SCO

Lurker
So I have a HTC Desire, Had it for over a year now. Just the other day it started it's loop. Goes to the HTC screen, Then the US Cellular screen, Finally to the Home/Lock screen just to turn black and restart it's loop.

I've posted on different forums about my problem with the hopes that someone would know how to fix it, but the most useful thing I got back was 'buy an Iphone'.

I've taken out the battery, Took out my SD card. Restarted the phone with ou the SD card. Got to the BOOT menu and went through the menu's,
-Fastboot
-Recovery
-Clear storage
-SIMLOCK

I've clear my phones storage, tired every combination to reboot through this menu. But nothing is working. US Cellular is hesitant to help since they no longer sell this phone. I'm not big into technology; I'm just asking that if you read this, throw out an idea that might help.

I assume that you have not rooted your desire and therefore it may be worth running the office gingerbread update from htc which should work.
Or you could root the phone install a custom recovery and then custom rom.
What happens when you select recovery, also what does it state at the top of the screen, such as pvt4 and hboot

The link below is to the all things root section for the desire which may help with your predicament

Sorry to contradict Paul, but the official GB update won't work for a USCC phone (CDMA, not GSM), and even if you could root a phone that won't boot I would not recommend it except as a last resort, and only if out of warranty (here in the UK the warranty is 2 years, don't know about USA). See below for some comment on this though.

Can USCC provide you with an up to date RUU (windows program to reflash the phone)? I think they used to have one on their website. If the phone is not already rooted that would be the best bet. Put the phone in fastboot mode (from hboot menu), connect to pc and run program.

What is your hboot version? If it's 1.06 you might be able to get S-Off via revolutionary, install a custom recovery and then a new ROM - I *think* you can do that through fastboot, but not certain. But I'd leave this as a last resort (and find a rom before starting). Since we don't know the cause there's no certainty that any software solution will work. Other hboot versions don't have this option - unrevoked requires the phone to be running.

When you pulled the battery, how long did you leave it out for? Try a few minutes.
