Another thread about the battery! Sorry!

The device is still the same and they still use HTC version of froyo. The carriers don't change anything in the Rom, such as the kernel .or the code which is responsible for battery life... all the fi is add apps and change some of the aesthetics.

I'm sure you have a ton of experience modding phones, and I've gotten my share of early updates myself. But in my experience overall the majority of updates are more stable getting them OTA than getting them early.

There's a reason why many people go through the hassle of going back to stock firmware just so they can get the official upgrade. Not sure if you do the same, but to each their own right?... :)

To each their own indeed, but Im not even talking about custom roms. If you use an ruu, although it will wipe your phone, it gas a much better success rate than ota, and just as official

I've done every charging suggestion posted from here and XDA and all I managed to get is my phone shutting down before the battery completely drained. I'm not the only one, there are users over in XDA that have had similar results...

lol, I'm the noob here and you're confusing me!

I thought the point about the majority of battery threads is the issue of battery life, and extending its life, not draining the battery to 0%.

I also thought that the phone shutting down before you get to 0% is a good thing to protect your battery health... Because of the type of battery used.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

WTF.! How do we go from improving battery life to being told to wait for froyo ? I've been on the official HTC, genuine, ota, kosher froyo update for at least a month. It improved battery life a fraction. I'm now willing to try other avenues for any improvement (and I even bought an "extended life" battery which offered no advantage. Thank you to everyone in the real world.

But doesn't is wipe out HTC Sense and why do people still want to go back to stock and go OTA even with the safe goldcard route?...

If you follow the directions in OP's XDA link it will tell you about a method to "top off your battery". The problem (in a nutshell) with this is that it appears that the "extended life" trick doesn't work and the battery dies before it hits 0%...

The ruu is official from HTC. It wipes personal data but its official so it has sense.

Ota is only as good as the data connection used at the time.

If you debrand using an official but generic ruu (as opposed to an official branded ruu) you do need a goldcard.

Stock just means as it is out of the shop. Depending on the.phone, this could mean branded or unbranded.

Custom rooted Roms are different. There are 2 types. Sense roms, and aosp roms without sense. The latter are vanilla android. Any rooted rom cannot receive ota updates but that's another story.

Due to the lack of ota support I can see why rooted phones are returned to stock as stock will always receive ota. Branded has to wait for carrier to release where generic does not.

If you debrand to generic, ota updates will.only work with a goldcard though.

Hope this clarifies

No believe me I get all of that, but I've still seen issues in the RUU thread like WiFi not working for example? Is this a Froyo thing, HTC thing, user error, or unlucky user experience from doing the upgrade?...

Probably luck. Often orange phones cause problems

See that's the type of stuff that I've been trying to avoid and I got even more concerned when it has happened to more than one person, same things were being reported on XDA too...

Orange are renowned for putting dodgy stuff on Android. Is never have one. Bought a locked Orange hero. Dodgy tom.doesn't accept unlock codes. Had to root plus custom.Rom just to unlock. Ridiculousl

Hmmm Maybe that's a possibility on why people are having WiFi issues in the RUU thread since the recommended ROM in OP's post to use is the Orange UK one?...

wifi issues to my knowledge only come from people (like myself) who have debranded their handsets themselves. Then when they do an update they dont use the goldcard and the wifi gets lost. If you do an upgrade with the goldcard in there isnt a problem.

This applies to RUU and OTA updates, which are the same thing anyway.

Interesting... Just doesn't make sense why carriers take forever to port these over if the update on RUU/OTA is the same thing without any bugs to be fixed...

They have to test that the bloatware they put on doesn't affect the Rom. Clearly their testing isn't always as comprehensive as the time it takes to release would suggest
