Root Another typically Nooby request for help - Sorry

Hi guys,

I rooted and flashed a custom ROM to my HTC Desire the other night in the (now ridiculous seeming) hope that it might help the unfortunate constant overheating re-boot issue that i have had ocurring - i didnt want to send the desire off for repair.

Skip forwards a few days and i am now sending it to HTC Support - TOMORROW (thursday)- and desperately need to "un root" and remove the ROM as I dont want to void my warranty. I know that to do this i need a RUU and i am also well aware of the fact that i have lost the .txt document i made all my previous radio information etc.

This is a desparate and urgent plea for help from someone who is normally techy and hates that he doesn't understand what he is now meant to be doing.

Can anyone point me in the right RUU direction? I have been trawling the threads and finding it hard to find what i need. -EDIT: i tried "Froyo (2.09.405.8 or 2.10.405.2) update or restore" and unfortunately it wouldnt work as its too old as well as others i found.

I really do apologise for clogging up your forum with stupid questions.

humongous thanks in advance.

Callum

Yup unbranded.

Currently DL. Will let you know how it goes - am i right in thinking then that it doesnt matter what my radio was etc - and this ruu will work on all unbranded handsets?

Thank you Hadron, this is twice now that you have come to the rescue - this is a wonderful forum.

fingers crossed!

The RUU replaces the radio as well as the ROM and even the bootloader. This is the World Wide English unbranded GSM version, so if that fits your phone's description I believe it should work.

As I understand it the utility will check your handset's id and only run if it's the right version, unless you are using a goldcard (which hides the id, allowing you to run any RUU). I put these caveats in since I've never used it myself, but everyone tells me it's simple (I hope never to put it to the test!).

Another nooby question to add to the growing pile!

Im getting a USB connection error when running phone in fastboot, debug enabled- i have the right drivers installed.

should i be running this in the phones normal capacity? If so, what connection type should i chose?

Thanks in advance

If you are running a Sense ROM I think you can do it when the phone is booted. Otherwise I thought you should run the RUU with the phone in fastboot. Hopefully someone with experience of using RUUs will be along soon.

Got fed up, re-installed sync and drivers - uninstalled sync - ran the RUU in fastboot - all is well in the world.

Once again, thank you Hadron. :D
