Root Another update?

OK so I'm running CT Mod 3.68 if I wanna install Koumas ff19zip update can I just do it like I would a from or theme.zip in cwm? Hope that's not too dumb of a question!!!

Nope :) you unzip it and use Odin

To Install just the Baseband:

-Put your phone into download mode
-Connect your phone to your pc
-Open up Odin
-Select Your Ops no ops in the zip (use ops file from the odin dl you used to root or dl another one from the odin thread)
-Select phone.tar
-Hit start

no, need to odin the phone tar (will not mess with setup and data) or whole thing ( will wipe and restart as new).

you all beat me to this while was talking and didn't post right away, oh well point is out there.

Than I'm new to all this + I gave my desktop to my daughter so I wouldn't be able to do the whole Odin thing. Againt than!

I'm on CTMod 3.68, et16 ICS theme and I odined just the baseband to ff19 and tested. The pings got better but that's about it.

Improved from .08Mbps average on FF19 to .40Mbps on FE16.

You can probably guess which one I'm keeping.

Thanks Kouma! I was hoping you would ride in and do this for us. I know that this is a busy time for you.

Anybody, notice anything interesting about this update. I am about to download the rooted version, but I will only flash the baseband for now. Got too much going on to spend much time with it either. Lol.

Wonder how it will work with CM7 and the Kato Kernel?

EDIT:

So far so good. Have not done any quantitative testing such as a speedtest.net but I cannot tell much difference from FE16 so far.

FE16 is better for me in both speed and signal strength.

Thanks for doing the testing. I think I will give it a few days. My best signal strength comes at night so I will really find out then.

As a side note, I recently went to a Further (Grateful Dead Survivors) concert in Atlanta. I live in Savannah. WOW. I would almost move to Atlanta for the Boost Coverage. I had ALL the bars almost ALL the time. It was wonderful. And I was using CM7, Kato Kernel, FE16 and 61008 PRL. We even had a terrible storm after the concert and I restored WeatherBug Elite from backup and used it to watch the Doppler Radar. It was awesome. Best coverage I have ever gotten.

Savannah is obviously a red headed stepchild as granny used to say.

The concert was in Alpharetta and i was staying in Jonesboro (long story), but the signal was good everywhere that we went. It continued the next day almost all the way to Macon.

Boost CAN have a good signal after all. LOL.

i feel your pain, i was fortunate enough (:D) to spend a week in Savannah. the college i was working for put me up here Alamo Plaza Motel - Savannah, Georgia - Yahoo! Travel  (thankfully for only ONE day, then i went to a real hotel)
i had virtually no service at the hotel, (either one) and had very slow 3g regardless of signal strength. thank god for wifi... lol

I live in Macon. It's pretty decent signal most of the time but yes, it is better the further north you go and south it certainly gets worse. As long as you stay close to I-75 the better the signal.

Alamo Plaza! That is a crack motel with walls all around like the Alamo. Lol. Conveniently located close to River Street though.

You are lucky to still be alive.

PRL 61008 for me also.

I went on vacation to Orlando this past spring and the 3g speeds there were awesome. I think I was on a hybrid Sprint PRL at the time but my wife was on whichever one Boost gave her. We both noticed a huge difference, even when we spent a day in Cape Coral.

I think the hills and valleys of SW PA are my biggest obstacle.

Ok, so if FE16 is the better update, how do I keep samsung from pushing the new update on me? I'm using the rooted FE16 and already know not to allow a system update.

FF19 seems a little faster for me... at least it seems to stay connected. Drove to New Orleans today and back... steady signal the whole way, and better at home. I dunno... maybe it's just me.

Funny you should mention New Orleans. I lived there from Mardi Gras 2009 until July 2011.
Good to know I'll have good service the next time I visit the Big Easy :burnout:

I am not sure about any speed improvement but I think that it is more stable overall with CM7.

Not that it was not stable before. But I have less occasional phone quirks and it switches better between phone, 1x, 3g and WIFI. I do a LOT of switching. Lol.

BUT, some of this may be from tower improvements. Lord knows they had it screwed up for a while there.

Battery seems about the same maybe a little better. Except for the Bright Shiny Syndrome diagnosed by Dr. KOUMA.

Just got 2 1500mAh Hyperion batteries from Amazon. I was skeptical but they are doing great after some break in.

Have not tried Bluetooth.

I loaded FF19 baseband onto CT 3.68 for a trip into downtown Pittsburgh. Results - Pretty damn snappy. My signal where I live just blows.
