I've had my contract for thirteen months. This sounds like the way to go for me. Thank you.How long have you had your current contract? If over a year you can get the $199 price with a new 2yr contract. That is what I am planning on doing to get out of my crappy Saga.
No, If you drop the data plan on the secondary phone you will be hit with $350 termination fee.
You want drop your current line since it only has a termination fee of $150. You will lose your current phone number though.
I was told by Verizon that they will not do this? If they will that is awesome news?
my NE2 is not good till 10/5/2010 what can I do![]()

I am indeed on a single line, NATIONWIDE TALK & TEXT 450 is what VZ calls it. What I find when I click "Phone Details", then "Upgrade Now", then "Continue", the site will only show me full retail prices for phones. I probably need to call Customer Service to see what they say huh....Let me clear this up.
Wynnded, are you a single line or is your phone on a family share? If you're on a single line you're good. If your phone is on a family share, you would have to be the primary number to be eligible for a new 2 year contracts as secondary lines get an upgrade every 20 months.
trying to figure out the best approach to getting the incredible without paying an arm and a leg is turning out to be more complicated than brain surgery -- not that i have any idea how complicated brain surgery is. anyway, i'm hoping to get some feedback from others on here as to what my best option(s) is. thanks in advance.
i currently have two lines under a family plan. primary line is not available for NE2 until 4/30/2011 -- associated with the TP2. secondary line is not eligible for an upgrade until 7/30/2011 -- used to be ex's line, but now i just have a dummy phone associated with it.
so i'm thinking the following options are potentially available to me:
1. bite the bullet and pay full retail and swap the TP2 for the incredible on the primary line. sell either my used TP2 on e-bay/craigslist or "accidentally" break it and use my insurance on it for a "new/refurbished" one, which i'd then sell on e-bay/craigslist, hoping to get some money for it.
2. add a third family line and get the incredible at the subsidized price. this plan seems more logical (and legal?), but i don't want to pay for two data plans on two lines, especially when i'm only going to be using the one line with the incredible. i'm wondering if i'd be able to cancel one of my current lines without having to pay the $350 ETF -- maybe cancel my secondary line with the "dummy" phone, then use the "dummy" phone to replace the TP2 and drop the data plan associated with the TP2?
3. see if i can find a way to just drop the data plan associated with the TP2? -- tell them i'm willing to pay per MB usage (won't matter to me since i won't even turn it on).
i have no idea if the above-described plans even make any sense. just had surgery a few days ago and still feeling a bit woosy.
if anyone has any better plans or other suggestions, i'd really appreciate it!
If your NE2 is 10/5/2010, I'd assume you're available for an annual upgrade. Sign into your account and see if that is so. Annual upgrade gets you the phone at 2 year pricing, however you waive your NE2 credit and do have a 20 dollar early upgrade fee.
Your second option will definitely be cheaper in the long run probably. Just get a new line with the phone at a subsidized price. Make that new line your primary number, and put a $20 pay-as-you-go dumb phone on the line you're currently using. Then you'll just have to play the waiting game until those other two lines expire, but combined they'll only be $9.99 a month plus taxes and such levied by your state.
Depending on the EFT on those lines too, it might be better than paying the 9.99 in the long run, but I that's not likely. It's worth asking while you're there though. For instance, you would have to pay $160 of the course of the life of the first line until it expires, but your EFT on that line might be less than that amount. Either way, it seems that you're better off adding a line, but not my much. With two lines you aren't using, that's a lot of $9.99 fees for the next couple of months.
thanks for the reply.
i guess the part that i'm still a bit confused even after reading all the other posts is whether i'd be charged a huge fee if i swap the TP2 for a "dummy" phone... even if i don't cancel the line. the reason i ask is cause when i got the TP2, i obviously got it at the subsidized price when i added the second line to my plan. however, considering that i haven't had the TP2 for the entire 2 years, verizon hasn't had the chance to milk 2 years cost of data plan associated with the TP2 from me yet.
wouldn't this be similar to someone getting the incredible at the subsidized price, but don't use it for a month or so (but continue to pay the data plan) and then swap the incredible for a cheap phone and subsequently sell the "unused" incredible on e-bay or craigslist for near retail? of course this example is a bit more extreme since i've had the TP2 for more than a month, but i'd think verizon would have figured out this "loophole".
damn my brain hurts.![]()
