Help Anti-virus & Spyware

Hi All

New to Andriod and smart phones...............so perhaps a stupid question?

Do I need to get some sort of Anti-virus & Spyware protection for my Desire?

There are some apps available, but personally I don't see a need for them. As all applications run sandboxed in android, nothing can gain access to your functions without you choosing to allow them.
