Help Any app known to destroy external SD Card?

Photon 4G - SD Card was PNY 32gb. Got it a week ago, worked fine. Now it is basically a piece of plastic as far as phone and computer are concerned - does not even show up as a drive on computer when inserted in adapter, phone says "insert an SD Card" under Settings > Storage > SD Card. So no way to even re-format it.

Did not notice exact when this happened, have installed the following since I last knew it worked:
Wunderground
Weather Channel
Agenda Widget for Android (by "everybody all the time")
AndFTP Client (installed soon after - it did not see Ext SD Card - so assume it was already broke before this)

I highly doubt any of these caused it. I am more inclined to believe it is just a dud SD Card. Also read somewhere on forum that PNY is not recommended for phones, better SanDisk. Should have read up on this BEFORE buying the card. Had a 2GB SanDisk in my other phone for 2 years, no problems.

Want any input before I get another card, if there are any apps known to fry an SD card?

I've never heard of an app causing an issue to the SD. I'm more prone to believe it was the PNY card.

There was a great deal on the 64gb micro SDXC the other day at Best Buy, for $49.99, but that deal was 1 day only.

You can probably get a good 32gb SanDisk Class 6, for a very good price. Adorama has it for $27.95, but there may be other places that have it for even cheaper.

Thank you drex, I feel better about getting a new card. I will have to stick with 32gb, the book that came with Photon said that is the highest. Should be enough it think LOL

Drex has gotten the 64 gb card to work in his Photon with no problems.

As for your issues, it seems like it's the card as I don't know of any apps that would do that either. Depending on how long you have had it, you might try to see if you can get some sort of manufacturer warranty cover on it. I would hate to buy one and not have it work shortly thereafter.

Sorry I sent y'all on a wind goose chase. Turns out nothing wrong with phone, apps or card -

Turns out someone switched the SD card! They actually sneaked my card out and left me with a dud card!

Got my card back and it works as always.

Not a sprint store (I never go to them, only Best Buy). No, this happened in my kitchen, by a room mate.

And get this: after he stole the card and put it in his phone, he left his phone behind, so I was able to take it back before he found out I had caught him.

Talk about dumb crooks. Needless to say he was kicked out has to go stay with his grandma now.
