Any better tasks integration in ICS?

Just wondering if anyone had heard about better tasks integration into ICS on the GN? I know there is a bunch of third party apps to do it, but it would be nice to have native support for tasks in the OS and maybe location options associated with them. I know when my cousin showed me her new 4s and asked Siri to remind her to do something when she left her house, I felt a little bit of OS jealousy.

I too, love tasks. I wish there was something nice like that on Android. Im using Astrid tasks right now... NOT the ideal solution.

Reminders with the option of using a geo-fenced reminder makes me drool after siri for that... just cant use an iphone...

Pretty surprised that no one else has commented on this. Is it mostly a non-issue for most of you? I would love to have a solution like reminders for android that would sync with google, much less have the geo-fence ability. Third party just hasn't created a clean solution for this and I for one was really hoping ICS would bring this feature into the fold.

GTasks works well enough for me. It's not exactly packed with features but it does what I need it to do.

I agree that task integration seems to be a hole in Google's app list.

I will comment as this is a pretty big issue for me. There is no task management software out there that does what I want. I currently use Google tasks and have an app on my iPhone for it and it works, but it still is really limited for automating some of the task management and viewing I need to do. Not just limited to Android, I wish there was a full solution out there.

It's definitely a functionality I would love to have, along with being able to assign tasks to others with whom you share Google calendars. Hopefully the calendar improvements in ICS don't end with the pinch zoom feature. :)

I really like the idea of being able to share or give tasks with other users you are associated with. That combined with location associated options would be amazing.

The downside is, a feature this great wouldn't likely go unmentioned till release... I feel like at best we're looking at a simple tasks addition.

Feel free to chime in and give evidence I'm wrong tho, I'm hoping for it :)

My life would be complete if I was able to easily share calendars and tasks with my family.

You can share calendars through the Google Calendars function.

Tasks, not so much. But calendars are easy.

Yep. We do this now. And I get around the "tasks" thing by setting up an appointment on my son or husband's calendar with a reminder. Unfortunately, since we don't have shared tasks, I don't know when (or IF) it gets done. But at least I can send them reminders about stuff. :p

I use Astrid and have it syncing with Producteev. The iPhone have a Producteev app.

Producteev is free, full feature online task management system which I love. I just wish it have it's own Android app.

Gtasks works just fine for me and I use my cal when Gtasks doesn't do exactly what I need.

Someone should get a developer on this (maybe Gtasks developers) and actually utilize the open source asppect of Android. Im just not are how useful it would ultimately be because most people have just worked around by now.

Is there some iphone solution for this? Because what you're describing sounds less and less like tasks and more and more like an enterprise-level ticket tracking system. It does not seem odd to me that this is not part of the standard, free Google package of services since it's something many companies do pay quite a bit of money for.

Tasks works well for making notes and reminders for yourself and others. If you need more functionality than that it sounds like you need to buy some software.

Pretty sure we'll see some improvement at least with Calenders:

From: Android 4.0 Platform Highlights | Android Developers
Unified calendar, visual voicemail
To help organize appointments and events, an updated Calendar app brings together personal, work, school, and social agendas. With user permission, other applications can contribute events to the calendar and manage reminders, for an integrated view across multiple calendar providers. The app is redesigned to let users manage events more easily. Calendars are color-coded and users can swipe left or right to change dates and pinch to zoom in or out agendas.

Though, looking at the Calendar API for devs ( CalendarContract.EventsColumns | Android Developers )

It seems as though there is room for task info, but nothing defined in there as of yet.

It's a shame Android's native calendar app doesn't even support Google Tasks. Come on now Google!

I have a recommendation for the time being: try the "Jorte" calendar from the Play store. It's a hidden little gem that syncs Google Calendar and Google Tasks, and has robust options for displaying them. It can mix tasks and events all onto the same view in various different way. It's has the nicest calendar and task views that I've seen so far and is SUPER customizeable.

By the way, Jorte doesn't remind you to do certain tasks when you are in certain locations like Siri does, but there's an app called "Llama - Location Profiles" by KEBABAPPS that allows you to set settings on your phone and perform certain tasks based on your location and time of the day. It's very powerful.

You can tell LLama to remind you to "wash mom's car" when you get to Mom's house or "take coworker Jane Doe to lunch" when you are at your work location and it is almost time for lunch at 11am.

Jorte and LLama put together can be a powerful combination. I've seen no other apps that even come close (but native Android functionality would of course be awesome).
