Any differences in wifi tethering for rooted and non-rooted?

I'm already running wifi tethering via the non-rooted method, and it works pretty well. I was curious if the rooted method seems to be faster or works even better. Anyone tried both and noticed any differences?

TIA.

If you're using the hotspot method then that is easier than the rooted methods which use ad-hoc. I'm not sure which is faster.

I'm actually curious about this too. My Wireless Tethering app stopped working a little while back and I haven't had the time to fix it (I know there is already a fix out there, but I tried it quickly and it didn't work).

Someone have a link to the non-rooted method? I think I'll try it out and see if I can just switch to this (unless it's not as good).

I've tried both, I did not see a difference.

Had been using he non-root method for about 6 weeks before I rooted the phone.

Then tried Wireless Tether, and it's basically the same thing. I read somewhere that it uses the same exploit as the non-rooted method, so it should provide the same speeds.

This morning I installed the free PdaNet app.

Then I saw this post so I followed the directions and when I got to the edit DUN NAI I found my number was already set at yournumber@vzw3g.com.

Is this a result of installing the PdaNet app?

I wonder why my Inc was already set for tethering, its not rooted and I have never changed anything.

In the edit menu, there is 2 lines with you number. One has the dun in it and one doesn't. Or if you had subscribed to Verizon's Mobile Hotspot plan, it would have gotten changed it. Some custom ROMs have it disabled as well.

Are you getting tethering without a contract or did you get a refurbished DINC? I ask this because all the DINCS are tether ready just that verizon will make the change in your phone to start receiving it when you sign up for it.

Hmmm I did not know that. Learn something everyday.
