Root any fix for us slcd screen incs yet?

I'm new to the Inc but not to android. I'm debating rooting but all this talk of kernels is confusing. I came from the Eris where you didn't need to flash a kernel unless you wanted to OC. If I rooted using the 1 Click method by unrevoked could I still OC without flashing a custom ROM or kernel or is the kernel needed to OC? Also, which kernel would you reccomend? I love sense and now that I have 2.2 I'm perfectly happy with it, I just would like to underclock when the screen is off to try and save more battery. I have the SLCD screen as well. Sorry to jack your thread, but I figured since I have the same screen you'd be able to answer my questions. Thanks in advance for your help

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but I believe you need specific kernals to be able to OC. I hate sense so that's why I rooted. If you're just interested in saving battery without having to root you might want to try Juice Defender/Ultimate Juice. There are different settings you can try but the main one is turning off data except for 1 minute every 15 minutes when the screen is off and phone is idle. Obviously you can set it to stay awake when the screen is on but these apps have helped my battery life tremendously.

we must have been typing at the same time lol.

LOL...I'm trying the #1 kernal now. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Kernals are new to me so I don't quite understand everything about them yet. I'm learning tho!

I just installed a new battery today too, the HTC 1500mah. I had been running the Seidio 1750 but apparently those aren't all they're cracked up to be. I originally purchased it for my Eris so I already had it...we'll see what the new one does. I suppose if I change the battery and the kernal at the same time it'll be hard to tell which of those (if either) increases my battery life.

Well, it let me flash that kernal no problem. Not really sure what I'm looking for after flashing it though... I'm hoping for better battery life (obviously) but I'm not really running any tests or benchmarks or anything. I'm just happy that when I touch this phone it responds......unlike my Eris. :p

first thing you will notice is how much faster it charges with the kings kernel. then you will notice longer battery life. best of both worlds.
