Any former iPhone users here?

...thanks for checking that. I typically just connect via a USB cable to my pc, and let it do its thing. I've not tried the AllShare yet.

Also, I typically buy DVDs with a Digital version in the case. I then place it in my pc, and allow iTunes to 'download' it. I wonder if those now have a sort of DRM of sorts, and thus will not play on my S III. I guess we'll soon see.

As a further experiment I sent the same video clip by Bluetooth and the difference was amazing - 7 MINUTES 5 SECONDS, in other words 9-10 times longer than with AllShare Play! Needless to say I will not be using Bluetooth to transfer files in future.

Oh, really...

I'll copy a movie from my iTunes library to my S III and see what happens.

It won't work. iTunes movies has DRM on them. Any android device will play mp4 files, but not the ones with drm on them.

Not exactly true. Just because a movie is in an iTunes library doesn't mean it was purchased from iTunes. I have hundreds of movies in my iTunes library but not a single one purchased via iTunes, specifically because of the DRM restricting its use with Apple devices.

Not to take this thread off the beaten track. But, I take it, it would be best to convert a .m4v to a 3gp, to play on Android?

That's what I mean by "iTunes movies" - movies bought using iTunes. The poster mentioned the digital copies you get with certain Blu Ray DVDs. Those have DRM on them.

Movies that you rip and store in your iTunes library is not what I was addressing.

I Have had EVERY iphone and my NEW galaxy s3 Blows the iphone 5 and it's new features out of the water. I have more True control of my phone. It is a POWERHOUSE Smartphone. BIG screen and features out the Azz

Had a Droid X and enjoyed it. Have an Ip4 and it works fine. I am trying the S3 in the two weeks I have to return it to Verizon. So far, I think it is superior to the IP4 by a whole lot. The camera is far superior and I like having 64 GB of storage( 32, plus 32SD ) and the screen size is nice. It certainly doesn't feel like a "big" phone. It just feels right. ICS is great. Jelly Bean will be even greater. Unless the battery life is crazy poor, it looks like a keeper.

Pros of S3
+LTE
+big screen
+good looking
+live wallpapers, WIDGETS, better notification bar
+love the google maps/gps. Really good.
+love how everything is sync'd to your gmail account
+flash support- still recommend watching youtube videos on the youtube app, but good to see a webpage and not a bunch of nothing.
+removable battery
+expandable storage
+NFC & tectiles
+back is plastic so it's more secure

Negatives
-OS is already dated (Jelly Bean time!) and will likely stay that way for at least another 1/2 year if you're lucky. If you're unlucky, by this time next year you will still be on Ice Cream Sandwich, still waiting for Jelly Bean with no official word yet from Google or Samsung, with newer phones coming out with Key Lime Pie.
-can be laggy at times, freeze, and restarting/pulling battery is a technique you will master
-still not as wide a selection of apps vs. iTunes
-switching over, all your drm-protected iTunes music and apps are worth squat
-still new, don't know if there will be problems, ala GPS fiasco?
-iPhone has more accessories

For me it's a toss up. I switch between wanting to buy the GS3 now and waiting until the iPhone 5 comes out. With the GS3's OS already dated, I'm gonna wait till the iPhone 5 comes out to 1) see what that's all about 2) see if the GS3 will get Jelly Bean and 3) if not, what other flagship phones with Jelly Bean are available. I like iOS 6, it's got some interesting features. If the iPhone 5 doesn't wow me and I know the GS3 will not get Jelly Bean that quickly, maybe I can hope for a Verizon Galaxy Note 2 with Jelly Bean....

I think you're one of those types that will never be satisfied then. Calling the GS3's OS already dated, and constantly waiting for this and that the true question is what is it exactly that you want your phone to do: bring you lunch and give you a massage? I mean really when it boils down to it both phones (IPhone 4S and GS3) and others do everything I need it to do...I switched to the GS3 for its screen size and speed. I think too many people expect their phone to be the magic wand end all be all of phones and that's never going to happen.

I've had iPhones since 2009, but got bored of each new generation phone only feeling like a small change. I took the risk last week & bought the s3. IMO the difference is like night & day.

The s3 is so much faster than the 4s and I don't think ios is any more polished than ics

The phone is silky smooth & I don't regret for 1 minute my swapping over

By the way...big ups on the headphones from Samsung. Much better than the ones that ship with IPhones (the ones that fall out of your ear). They even have volume control.

Assuming you can do it , yes. If an m4v is the same file size as an mp4 you will save 20% of the file size by converting to 3GP, so if you have a lot of video clips that could be a substantial saving. I would suggest converting one as an experiment and comparing the file size?

No phone is shipping with Key Lime Pie, it doesn't even exist yet.
Jelly Bean just came out, other than the Nexus no phone has it yet.

I believe you can use doubletwist to pick up your itunes library and get it on the phone. Obviously not the apps though.

No problems with GPS at all on this handset.

don't forget apple is making all your iphone accessories obsolete with the new iphone, it will have a new connector port on it

If Apple do go with the rumored smaller connector, they will undoubtedly release a large to small adapter/converter.

I bought an app a while back to covert tones and tried it with my 'Real Steel' film. It took hours to process only to not work once I placed it on the S III...

I'll leave my films alone and just watch them on my iPad. Not worth the effort just to have films on my S III...

It's now less than a week to go before I get my SGS3.

Really excited, but very nervous too.

Had an iPhone 3G, 4 and 4S over the past 3 years and just love Apple products in general.

However, I get an upgrade this Saturday, and the best phone available on my carrier right now is the SGS3 so I'm finally going to take the plunge.

I've heard alot of good things about the SGS3, and a few things that make me frown when I read them.

The brightness settings when outside worries me, the redraw issue when going back to the home screen worries me, but apart from that I'm quite excited at the prospect of having something a bit different having been on iOS since 2009.

I recently got my parents two Huawei Ascend G300's as they only wanted something cheap and modern. I've been playing around on them to get used to Android before I get my phone on the 14th, and well i'm impressed by some aspects, overwhelmed by some of the complexities, but not overly blown away by the OS.

I know the SGS3 is a different kettle of fish completely as it's a high-end Android phone running ICS and the Huawei is very much a budget Android phone running Gingerbread.

I'm just nervous I suppose after spending so much time and money on my iPhones and iPad over the years. I'm signing upto a 24 month contract with O2 on Saturday so I want to be 100% that the SGS3 won't let me down.

I am an apple convert and don't get me wrong, I love my iPhones.

I actually just got bored with them and the releases being minimal with no big change and small updates. I think the 5 will be a bigger screen and impressive but again, same operating system with limitations. I have my iPad to keep my apple fix but I have owned the S3 for a couple days and I am very impressed.

It's very snappy, love the customization, and really like the feel of the bigger screen when I normally didn't enjoy big screen phones.

I do have some concerns:

Battery life as I get a ton of emails during the day with work
The phone slowing down eventually as I add more apps and things like that
All of these tasks burning battery (I did download advanced app killer)

Overall though, so far I am very glad I made the change and really enjoy this phone.

Hi all, posting my question here in the hope that someone will be able to help!

I received my S3 on Friday to replace a 3GS...it's a brilliant phone and great having a change from iOS (lovely screen, fast, loads of options to play with), BUT I'm about to re-pack it for return in the 7 day period as I've failed to sync or update my iCal data successfully...

In iCal I have 15 different calendar categories for work, clients, family etc. I tried using SyncMate and all the data synced over OK and retained my categories, but when I update an appointment or add a new one in either iCal or on the s3 it doesn't sync across. Using Kies I ended up with all my iCal data in a single new category in iCal called GT-I9300 but I want it separated as that's how I like to work. Unless I'm doing something wrong Google Calendar seems to only have 1 calendar category to sync with iCal, so the same problem exists for me with this.

I'd love to keep the S3 but I just don't think it's going to work the way I do, & I don't want to be force into changing the way I work (using a single calendar) just because the sync can't handle multiple calendars...has anyone succeeded in syncing multiple calendar categories?

Other than that the contacts sync'd no problem using Kies and I'm sure this will also sync my itunes library (once I've converted the protected files using TuneClone!).

Cheers, Nige

Two words: JUICE DEFENDER. Download that ASAP it is a must have app that extends your battery life and very customizable.

Morning everyone,

I am moving my wife and I from IPhone 4s' to GS3's today and wanted a couple opinions. We have both had multiple Android devices and iPhones before. After the unimpressive ios6 announcement we decided to move back to android after 6 months of ios.

My last device was an Atrix 2 and had a MIUI inspire before that. My biggest gripes were poor battery life until tweaked to the point of having any features turned off...

I suppose my question is.... How has the 2100mah battery held up on everyone's GS3's?

Good morning, I too just switched from the 4S to the S3 yesterday as a matter of fact. I don't have many apps installed except of course what the phone came with and a few other apps that I downloaded but I Must say that I am impressed with the batter life so far. I must say if you are a heavy user the battery will drain much faster obviously but that would happen on any phone. I searched the web checked emails made a few calls some texting and even some playing around and it was much much better then I have seen before on an android phone.i unplugged it yesterday at about 2 or 3 pm and didn't plug it in last night and when I woke this morning at 8:30 the battery was a 75% give or take and that is after playing with the phone like I had stated above. I really reall like this phone and as of right now will it be going back to IOS anytime soon as I don't see the iPhone 5 being much better if a all then the S3. Good luck with the phone..

My wife and I just upgraded from the iPhone 4 (not the 4s) to the S3 Thursday night.

I have been pretty satisfied with the battery life, but my wife has had some complaints. The phone went dead on her while she was at the pool with the kids on Friday afternoon. She has never had a phone flat-out die on her in the middle of the day before, so she was a little miffed.

That said, since the phone was new, she and I had both been pounding on it pretty hard since 7:30 that morning. I'd been installing apps, she'd been surfing around a lot and just generally fiddling with it. Plus, she was used to the iPhone crippling the resolution of all of the videos she sends to people automatically. When I checked the data useage, I saw that there had been ONE GIG of data that had gone through her email app. She had been sending HD quality video.

You and your wife have more experience with Android devices than my wife has (which is none, basically). So, you will be less prone to these pitfalls. That said, if you just take the phone out of the box and start using it just like you would an iphone, the battery will seem lacking. But, once you take a few steps to mitigate excess wifi/3g/screen drain, it should be useable the whole day on one charge.

I installed JuiceDefender Ultimate on our devices today. We'll see how that helps as well.

Battery life is good, but you must tweak it to optimize your performance. Mine only drained 3% overnight a couple days ago from a 9 1/2 hour slumber. The home button is used a lot. If the phone will be sitting for a period of time, i will clear tbe RAM and close all tasks. I never used apple before. Just make sure to back out of everything to close it. Dont rely on the home button to stop sh:t.
