Help Any issues with home & back buttons?

Referring back to the Original Post, am I reading this correctly? The way it reads to me is that it sounds like the backlight for the Hardware keys is staying on dimly lit even when the power button is pressed to turn off the screen and lock the device?

So when the screen is off and completely black when the phone is in a non-awake state the keys are still lit dimly? And even after a factory restore? ...It kind of defies logic...

However, if this is the case ^ I'm led to think that there is a hardware issue going on. Has the phone been exposed to any water? Or maybe an overly moist/humid environment? Any drops or knocks to the front of the screen, particularly in the area just above the buttons?

I already have all the latest updates, it was after them that the issue started.

I know it doesn't make sense but yes, when the screen is locked and the phone is idle, the buttons remain lit. I don't have a case so it doesn't seem to be a problem with the light sensor.
The phone hasn't been dropped or in contact with water. It has been well looked after so there is no physical damage. It seems to be a fault with the phone if no one else has any knowledge of this.

Looks like i'll have to send it in for repair!
Thanks for the replies

Seems like you've decided your next move. I just hate a mystery with no ending or answer :)

When you factory reset, did you restore your Google account right away when the device came back on and went through initial set up? This would likely include your settings and Applications backup, and may re-add the issue to the clean device.
Waiting before re-adding your accounts after a factory reset helps eliminate a lot of variables.

If you power the phone down completely, what do the lights do? (make sure you aren't in Fast Boot or Power Saver before power down)

A hard restart might be worth a try. Press and hold down the power key for 10 seconds. You may see the capacitive buttons under the screen start to blink or a message come up with a countdown to reboot. This method forces the hardware and software to more fully restart.

You could give Safe Mode a try as a last effort:
(This will run your phone with all 3rd party applications disabled on a more clean configuration.)

Ensure that Fast Boot is turned off in your Power Settings
Power the phone down and wait for it to be fully turned off for a minute or two
Power the phone back on
When you see the white HTC Boot screen immediately press and hold down the 'volume down' hardware key on the right side of the phone. Hold it until the phone completes start up, and you see the words "Safe Boot" displayed in the lower left corner of your lock/home screen.

To get out of Safe Mode simply power off and power on your phone as normal

If I power it down they do go off. Just not when I lock the screen like they used to. Finding it hard to understand where this malfunction has actually come from when the phone has never been damaged?

I tried all the things you suggested and still no luck i'm afraid! Thanks for your help though.

I am having the opposite problem in my Verizon One.
My Home and back soft keys never light up.

In fact, I never really noticed it until this thread.
"Oh.. those are supposed to light up"
Who knew?

First day with this phone. My experience is they won't light up unless the sensor is covered (or it's being used in the dark). In my case, i haven't figured out the green LED notification; seems to have a mind of it's own.
