Root Any new techniques for the lock screen?

Newbie
So thanks to you all i am rooted now. I feel so free!

Now, i have been searching this FORever and i know its been beaten to death, i just want to know if there is any new word out on the subject. if there isnt, someone just say so and lock this baby up! (pun not intended) thanks:

disable the sliding (fake iphone) lock but keep the ability to use the pin, password, and pattern lock? i have read something about adding .bak to a filename or something?

cheers

oh and also im straight onto 2.2 from the store. and system 2.3.340

I appreciate the effort, but i didnt see anything about the initial lock screen? Perhaps I missed something...?

To clarify, i mean the first screen when the x is awoken (from its mighty slumber) there is the screen lock in blur (as of now i am still on the stock ROM). I tried noLock but like others i feel like there should be some sort of barrier when the phone is initially awoken, but noLock disables ALL locking measures (or unlocking measures, whatever way you think about it). In settings, adding the pattern, pin, or p/w lock is IN ADDITION to the slidy lock. I would like to remove the slidy lock BUT still be able to use the other measures.

I understand if this is not possible yet, I was just wondering if there were any updates :)

thanks again for the effort.

Its all good man. :p

I was reading another post like one i started asking about how to begin the rooting process and I have to agree with what he said (darkcyber), that this is an excellent forum that is extremely flame-free. Love it.

But don't you have to slide twice using widgetlocker?? Once android slider, then widgetlocker slider and then enter PIN, pattern or password?

true that. I think it depends on when you updated, how many different updates you have had.

Could i use something like root explorer, and change the apk to bak for something like "screenlock.apk"? is there such an apk?

No. WidgetLocker disables the stock lock, but occasionally I do see the stock lock.

If you have an Exchange email account that turns on enhanced security, then yes, you'd have WL, then stock lock, then strong password. Just went thru that with Liberty and GummJar until a newer email app was released.

It's not what you asked for, but still a neat replacement for the stock slider.

Honestly, I wish i could live with that haha!!

But. I'm so sick of the laggy slider that I have to X it (so to speak).

There must be a way. Its a droid. C'mon. But I know im not experienced enough to go pokin around in my phone adding filepaths haha

GummyJAR dispenses with the extra slide-to-unlock. You can go straight to the pattern lock. But it requires you to install a new ROM - there's no easy way to do this.

thanks. I will look into that ROM. I was thinking Apex? does anyone know if Apex disables ye olde slider and allows you to pick a different lock? Or any other ROMS. I seriously hate that slidy crap. Its gotta go.

ApeX does not. GummyJAR is the only one I've used thus far that accomplishes this. Liberty probably does the same thing since it was based on GummyJAR, but I haven't used it yet.

WidgetLocker has absolutely no lag along with being able to customize the lock screen.

I'm on Apex and I don't know of any way to disable it. I feel your pain. Since day one it has been the one thing I hate about the X. Would love to see it on Apex. No plans of switching roms. Currently use no lock just to avoid it. I tried widget locker and ended up with two slide locks and pin lock.

XD at least youre locked down, right?

Dear devs, FIX THIS!!

I wonder if google gets paid for every slide lock that is slid. Quite possible.

well that sums it up. Liberty will probably be my next move. Just wondering, being a noob, would i have trouble movie from blur-land to liberty? i have heard apex is noob friendly while quite snappy, but liberty seems like definitely the coolest to me, but i have zero coding knowledge and little time to pick that up (oversimplifying of course).

Liberty allows you to add pieces of Blur back in via the toolbox.

You'll be fine. Just do a system backup before you switch and you can always go back if you don't like it.

I use widget locker and power control plus (widget) by Sirius applications together.
Only have one unlock screen and have replaced my slider with a custom one.

by system backup do you mean bootstrap recovery or something like that, that goes into recovery mode?
