Help Any Other Way To Disable App Update?

I have had the same issue for the last few months since I switched from verizon to boost mobile android phone. Does the same thing. There are 2 proprietary apps that I don't even use and I can't get rid of them and they are the only 2 that keep auto updating. I have been doing the same thing this whole time going in and clearing the data and uninstalling updates every single time. My phone is notorious for not having enough storage anyway so every single time these updates happen I have to clear them otherwise I won't have enough storage for texting, etc. It does it to me every other day I am getting so sick of it. If you ever figure this out please tell me and I will do the same because it's really frustrating and irritating.

So it's a -1 for innopath then.
I get the usual app update notification about once a day and since I have nothing set to auto update I just take a look at it and see if there's anything I want. So I basically take what I like and leave the rest. It's annoying yes, but pretty painless to just disregard the rest of the crapola I don't care for. Not a huge deal imo and easily dismissed.

If it would just inform me that the updates are available and not
DOWNLOAD them I would agree.
I'm not opposed to a BS notification once a day.
(I get those update notifications as well)
When it goes the extra step as to auto download and installs them,
that's a bit too much for me.

Maybe it happened again because of the factory reset I did.
I'm not sure that's the case though because this is the 3rd or 4th
time they've downloaded and installed on their own.

Are you still having the problem with auto-update? There is a root available for 2.3.3 Commando, and if you root it, you'll be able to (permanently) uninstall those apps which gave you such an apoplexy...

OK so i don't know where you guys have left off, root no root etc, but i figured why not use my powers of grandfathered unlim data for good and did a few experiments. the shortest work around i could find non root was; while al vz crap ware is at most current version, go through the market interface my apps, deselect auto update on each individualy, back out, open manage aplications, downloaded, uninstall the updates from this screen (not the uninstall in the market). this should leave them asleep and as long as you don't open one or update it on accident in the market, they should just show in the update cue in market. also to confirm innopath is not involved, after I cleared them all I ran inopath manualy, it showed no updates available. The only time I recall seeing it run was to do the OTA to 2.3.3, which i also ran manualy, why wait for your number to come up when you can just jump in there?

This work around has worked for me for 3 days now with auto-sync enabled.

I agree, this is a good solution. I get notified to update apps usually daily and I just look at the selection and dismiss it if I don't want any of the updates. Some are apps I use so the notification is good, I don't mind getting it. But easily dismissed as well in about 5 seconds.
I don't really understand the hubbub over removing the apps via root anyway. Removal frees up a certain amount of storage for sure, but that has nada to do with phone speed only storage capacity is affected. Last I looked between the commando and my SD I had about 8 gigs of storage free and I have everything I want right now.
RAM is the biggie, and it is affected by how much crap is running since it is your available operating memory. If it drops to low stuff slows down incrementally. My available RAM hangs around 200MB depending on my current ui or launcher of choice. It has dropped as low as 95MB when I really have a lot going on, but still performs well. Curious if a rooted user will chime in and say how much available RAM thay have on a rooted device, Kind of curious about that.
So if stuff is loaded I never use, as long as I don't choose to activate it I'm good and it will stay put. Furthermore I keep that stuff in a hidden file, so I never have to even see it. So to root or not to root is a personal preference. If there was some super new ROM out there it might be cool to be able to get it on. But to root to disable bloatware I never see or use anyway and seemingly has no "drag down" affect on my commando, then why bother? The ICS is coming and I've heard conflicting reports as to whether or not we'll be getting it. That will change the whole ui again for the better from what's being said. Maybe after that I might consider rooting, or maybe not.
Regarding improving battery life by rooting, As long as I go a day I'm good. I do that now and always charge nightly to start the next day with a full tank. I never quite got the complaints from people who say anything less than 3 days is crap battery life. Battery life is dependent on your personal usage, I consider a full day to be excellent battery life,so it's relative I suppose.

It might very well have been that factory reset that I did allowed
everything in this last time.
Nothing since.

but not interested at this point.

I think if I root at all, it will definitely be after ICS because of the problems that I heard rooters were having getting GB after rooting while having Froyo.

That's the only way around it that I was ever able to find as well.
I'm now thinking that the reason for the problem was because I had to do a factory reset.
As for the other times that it did it....I still don't know.
For now, it's going good.
Just getting the update notifications.
I'll cross my figures.

BTW,
How in the hell were able to keep your unlimited data plan??
They told me I had to give mine up because my unlimited data plan
was only good for a basic phone.
Was more smoke blown up my ass?

I think I just got lucky in my progression of phones, I first got unlim when I traded in a old school flip for the ENV2, probaby 2008 that was, went from that to the omnia2 in '10 when that was released, they had to alter it for some reason or another but it was still unlim data, and then the migration to this phone didn't alter anything on my plan but the TEC prices went up. I also call corperate stores only for my info (none of the best buy or kiosk idiots have the right level of access to know their out from their in) and upgrade online when possible, this bad boy only cost me 50 bones shipped.

EDIT: funny actualy the omnia 2 has an equal processor and ram, a bigger AMOLED screen and bigger battery than this thing and it was made 2 years ago :O if only they would have supported it like the should have, Winmo 6.5 had more than its share of flaws...

Interesting about the updates. I followed John's instructions and found that mine all had auto update unchecked. I have been conscious about unchecking that whenever I updated things, maybe that's how they got that way.

I had an unlim data plan with my Rock and was told that unlim data plans for "feature phones" are not transferable to smart phones. I heard that from three different Vz reps, one when I was "borrowing" phones to go to Europe and one was my good friend's son who is a verizon store asst mgr.

That's why I bought the commando outright during the third week of June, ahead of the July 7 expiration of unlim for smartphones. In June I could still get unlim data. At the time I thought my upgrade was due in March 2012 (contract end), but I got an upgrade notice on July 12. Figures. $449 vs. $149. But I don't worry about data, and am out to get my money's worth.

BT, I may have stumbled across the answer to your question about one place to disable app auto update. Go to the market, hit menu, then settings and see if auto-update apps is checked or unchecked. Mine was unchecked so either that was the default, or somewhere along the way I was digging around in there and unchecked it. Hope this helps.

ah I may have figured out the unlim querry now that runsondiesel worded it that way, i didn't think about the guys migrating from "feature" phones I have been on a smart phone plan going on 3 years now, the omnia 2 was a "smart phone" aswell so that is how I got the lucky gradfathering, the had to adjust my plan from feature to smart when i went from the env2 to the onmia2 back in 09.

REgarding the app updates pushed to the phone, I think I found a way to stop that from happening, so simple I neer thought about it before.
I went into the market app/settings and found the notifications box checked. I unchecked it and so far the updates are accumulating in "my apps" file but not coming to the phone. I hope this continues to be the case. I can easily check to see if any good updates I would want are available and get them, just leaving the rest. I hope this is a fix , seems to simple.

speak of the devil, my phone as I type is running its auto update, it says: 6 updates available, it auto downloaded: double twist, Gbooks, gsearch, and you tube. when it was done it cleared all the dls in the notification bar and just notified of 2 updates available. clicked it and it took me to the app store where it showed VZ nav and NFL as ready for update, which i did not click. so far so good, 4 days no VZW crap taking up anymore space than it did out of the box.

Yep, that's the same thing I was told in a very similar situation.
I guess I missed out on the unlimited thing you were talking about in
Jun/July as I didn't buy mine until September.
Oh well. I'll probably never go over my 2GB linit anyways,
I just felt a bit ripped off by the way they made me do things.

That's the only way I've found as well.
So far so good, but only time will tell.

yeah, saw that post, but thought you guys were missing something by not unchecking "notifications" which is why I mentioned it. I already had the auto update unchecked but was still getting the irritating notification from the market that I had updates. By unchecking "notifications" I now get no update notification from the app market which was a daily occurrence before. This is very good.

Here's a new problem that I've encountered after doing the factory reset:

For some weird reason,
the "Market App" wants to create a new set of terms for
each account that I have on my phone.
Example:
I have 2 Gmail accounts on my phone right now
and all of a sudden it wants me to accept terms for my secondary account.
Then it forces all of the Market downloads to the secondary account address
rather than the initial one that the phone was set up with.
WTF

Before I did the reset,
I actually had 4 different Gmail accounts on the phone.
All was working fine back then, and the market just used my initial
email address for the downloads.

The only way I've found to stop this now is to delete my secondary account.
There HAS to be a setting that I'm overlooking....
