Any scratches on your camera lens yet?

Nope. My Body Glove case prevents this but more importantly the screen protector I bought came with 2 little screen covers (dots) specifically for the lens. :)
 
You'd THINK someone at Samsung, during one of their design sessions, would have said, "Hey maybe we should do something to make the lens be sunken in the body of the phone, or perhaps put a raised ring around it, to reduce contact between it and other surfaces."

But no. They made sure it's fully exposed and in harm's way whenever you put your phone down.

I do have a rubber glove for that reason but I'm tempted to take it off because I don't like the extra bulk it adds to the slim phone.
 
I don't know if the part that's flush plays a part in proper light diffraction for the camera to work properly, but the "lens" is very much recessed from the body of the camera. If you scratch the plastic that's flush, you should be able to remove it and have a "naked lens".
 
I rock my phone completely naked no case, no screen protector either! I'm very careful with my phone I don't even wanna scratch the carbon fiber so before I set my phone down anywhere I make site its a softy surface. I even carry a little cloth around to clean it and I usually set the phone on the cloth first before I set it on a table or something

Do you see how thin the phone is? I doubt the designers had very little room to play with and maintain is profile. My body glove case creates some protection for it...not scratches on mine.

Thanks for making my day. I'm just as careful / no OCD here... ha..ha.. :)

Although I bought a body glove case when I picked up my Captivate, it was just to get me by till I could find a pouch type case to slip it in when I put it in my pocket. Case Logic makes a very thin zippered pouch that serves that purpose perfectly. It's as though it was made for the captivate. Also allows me to tuck in a thin jewelers micro fiber cloth.

I've had mine since they were released and it's like new.

um, that's not carbon fiber. its metal.

also, the glass on the lens is just ever so slightly pressed into the phone and isn't truly flush with the body of the phone which would help prevent scratches while on a solid surface.

just sayin...

Yeah, but if there is a grain of salt on the table and you accidentally set the phone on it while you are enjoying your Aunt Annie's pretzel, you could scratch the lens. :)

I can almost guarantee that it is not.

The optics for the CCD lens would've been an outsourced component and not one made by Samsung. The camera is a CCD+lens+mount package bought as a whole.

That said... the CCD lens is behind another layer of glass which is part of the plastic case. What that glass is made out of is unknown. I suppose that could be "gorilla glass" too although nothing has been said. The lens itself is not exposed to the outside.
