yeah I thought about it, but after seeing the leaked nexus 4 photos I like my phone more square and with a sd card, I know its just rumors, but it might not have LTE and only 8 gb of space, and be sold on google play for 399.00,so who knows, I will have 14 days to return it if I don`t like. my last famous word that I always tell my wife............We`ll see lol:D
 
Hmm. I don't need a SDcard but I do dig the the square look. The G won't have JB tho right?
 
My upgrade is right on December 1st.

That gives LG and XDA one month after release to find a way to unlock the bootloader/get Cyanogen mod working.

Being able to stay up to date via ROMs is incredibly important to me, and the only thing holding me back from the at&t version is an uncertain future in regards to custom ROMs.

My captivate had identical hardware to the nexus S and if the Optimus G mirrors the Nexus 4 in that manner it will be bar none the best deal on at&t.

If it fails to get unlocked bootloaders, then it will pretty much fall off and never be heard from again after an update or two max.
 
If ROMs are so important to you just get the nexus 4. I think this phone will be just fine if it keeps there locked bootloader. Its not all about ROMs. I've rooted and ran ROMs but I always come back to stock. I just like things to work. But everyone is different. I just think some people are going miss out on a great phone because they can't see past the whole messing with your phone thing. I understand it but I also don't. Even if the developers don't support it the phone will still be a good phone. But I do hope that you find a phone that meets your needs. In the mean time I will enjoy my stock optimus g.
 
I went back to ATT website to look at the LOG again and I see that there is a ordering note saying that orders should ship 10-29-2012, next monday, I hope, but that could change so I`m keeping my fingers crossed:D

First: Nexus devices aren't a feasible option. I'm on an At&t family plan, and I'm going to pay the same rate whether or not I use my upgrade. This isn't even taking into account the limited space of Nexus phones. 16 gigs with no expandable storage is not practical. Especially on a phone that could be 500$ this isn't even taking into account the lack of LTE support. I don't view LTE as a "need" but, I don't want to pay more money and get less hardware.

Second: If you are happy with stock all the more power to you. I however, am sitting on a captivate right now. If I didn't root/ROM I would be stuck back on Gingerbread. Believe it or not, Jellybean actually runs better for me than Gingerbread runs for my brother. Or at least they run about the same while I get more features/options.

Without my Rom, I wouldn't have Nova Launcher Prime, Chrome, Google Now, The Massively improved task manager.

In the event there is another major upgrades like ICS and JB I prefer to not be left out just because my manufacturer and carrier are indifferent. ICS brought major UI changes AND it allows for more options for developers.

The irony to all of this is there is a simple solution where everyone wins. All it requires is an unlocked bootloader.

If they unlock the bootloader, I get Nexus hardware and ROMs can easily be modified to work on the Optimus G. In addition to that, I get an SD card + LTE which the nexus probably won't have. I get at minimum 2 solid years of dev support.

I am *HAPPY* with LG and At&t so I have even more incentive to return to them for my business. They get their money, I get my phone, my roms, and it's a win-win situation all around.

Let's just say that Android 4.2 comes out and only brings some security updates. Ok, cool I miss it but, whatever.

Well if Android 4.3 is another major and allows development of newer and more interesting apps and LG is more concerned with selling "Optimus Newer" Guess what we don't get with our Optimus G. It puts us in a really nasty position if we don't have that ROM option. They don't want to upgrade the G because it will take away sells from the newer device but, we are stuck unable to get new apps and we still have a year left on our contract. We are out in the cold until our next upgrade. We either have to pay full retail price for a new phone, or stick to a version of android that doesn't do what we want.
 
See this is where Google needs to grow a pair and set guide lines on all of these phones. They need to tell them toupdate these newer phones or at least tell them to come out with the newest firmware on there phones. Theres no reason to have a phone that comes out now with a slightly outdated firmware.
 
4.0.4 is not that bad. Its one of the best updates to ever come out. There are and will be a lot of current phones out there that won't have jb for the next 3 or 4 months. If we can get it on this phone within the next 3 month I would be happy with that. Still a bummer though. But I'm not letting that bumm me out to much this is still a beast of a phone. I could of just waited for one to come out that has it. The HTC one x+ will have it but don't know when its going to be out and I don't want to wait for it. Its been 6 months and I need my fix for a new phone. There are options its just if you can wait or not.

There is actually a pretty great reason TBH.

You have to understand that this phone started development probably at least 6 months ago if not more. At the time they had a stable ICS source code to use and they decided to use it. Jellybean came out shortly after but, development was already in progress. Rather than delay launch, they choose to release with ICS and update after.

I know I'm in the minority here but, I'm personally indifferent to carriers/manufacturers and what they do. We are reaching a point where ROM developers can actually push OTA updates for their ROMs here.

If android had some sort of "universal code" that allowed unlocking of the bootloaders regardless of device virtually any device could receive nexus like support.

Despite what manufacturers and carriers would have you believe, the act of flashing a custom ROM on your phone probably carriers about as much risk of bricking the device as official updates in many cases.

I know I'm a bit insensitive to say this.. but, if Google were to push this kind of move and get it past carriers as long as devices had proper source documentation, I'd be indifferent if any device I purchased ever got an official update again. The process of flashing and ROMing could become widespread with little fear of repercussions.

We are talking about putting the update system on serious steroids and actually creating a dynamic ecosystem for android.

Jelly is not much of a difference. The only thing I want from it is project butter and Google Now.
 
yeah I`m not to worried about getting Jb right now, but from the Lg timeline should get it in Dec. I`m hoping Att website is correct that pre-orders should ship tomorrow

Actually those two things make pretty big difference. Project butter makes the phone leaps and bounds faster, smoother. Once you have it, you will never want to go back to ICS.
 
I've had a jb ROM on my s3 and yes project butter is very nice I didn't see a great improvement in my phone. Ya it was smother but not that much. These phone are very power full now that I don't noticed a big improvement. It will be here just have to have patience. If you just can't wait for it then the nexus 4 was just anounsed and it has 4.2 And comes out on the 13th. Didnt say if it was for att thought. Same specs just differernt looking and of corse 4.2. Me im good with my lg otimus g when i get it friday.
 
Has anyone on AT&T picked up the Optimus G?
I have an upgrade and was considering using it for a G but was curious on user feedback
