Any Time is Grillin Time

I put a winter jacket on my Traeger. Now winter time is grilling time too.

I have grilled as well as smoked in the bitter cold. It definitely takes more pellets. I'm assuming that your blanket is a thermal wrap of some sort. I didn't know they made such a thing. An excellent idea!
You will have to let me know how well it insulates the smoker. Wow, that is a great idea.

It's insulation, thermal wrap. 10 minutes from ignition to to 450, temperature ranged from 440-460 at 20 degrees outside. I could place the palm of my hand at on the top of the grill and not feel any heat with the grill at 450. All that and it only took about two minutes to put on. I'm really impressed. It's my favorite Christmas gift so far. :D

You are almost out of degrees there sir. I know there has to be some savings involved. My smoker does well to get up to grilling temps when it's below freezing and burning pellets like nobody's business.
Smoking has never been a problem but I'm still burning pellets like crazy. The blanket would be nice, no doubt. In Oz... when the temps are around zero and the wind is ripping.... I don't grill. The wind shuts me down. Too much heat escapes. :(

If the deep freeze lingers for much longer, perhaps an indoor model will get ya through 'til spring:

The one I have doesn't seem to be available anymore, less an e-Bay sale:

That is interesting. I love cooking out when it's cold. It uses more pellets but I can live with it. I just can't do cold and wind. It pulls way too much heat off of the smoker. A blanket might be the ticket.
However, your electric cooker would definitely be better than doing without. I love my smoked meats.

It does a decent job (just take it outside for venting when cooking is complete,or,the smoke will get into everything & linger for weeks........) but, kinda loses a bit in the all-around experience vs more traditional style smoking.

The end result is fine, but, just as most things in life, the journey is all part of the experience,if not more so than the result/destination..............

Well said. It's fun to huddle around the cooker to cook.. and keep warm lol. I enjoy it a lot actually. It's almost as fun as hanging out on the patio with a brew in the summer. There is just something intoxicating about that smoke and aroma.

QFT! :thumbsupdroid:
Most keggers in my home town were in the fall/winter............................ ;)

Wife pulled an audible and brought home some fresh salmon. Brushed on some italian dressing and seasoning and tossed it on the smoker. Between her and my 8 year old son, um, I didn't get any.:(

Salmon... oh my. Man that sounds good. Have you tried smoking some shrimp? It just takes a minute and they are way good.
In the summertime we often make a grilled shrimp appetizer that we can't wait to try on the grill. But the salmon was my first seafood attempt.

We have had below zero temps with wind chills in the double digits. Pretty sad excuse for not grilling, hey?
I want to try out my blankets in really cold weather, like low teens or single digits, to see how they hold up. I'll only test with burgers or something that isn't too expensive. Anything above 15 it's fair game. :D

It's warming up here. Temps in the low forties. I'd be grilling tonight but the wife has a roast in the crock pot. Maybe something tomorrow.... hmmm, just big old cheese burgers and grilled onions will work.

I know you're tweekin' for some griller action,so,I'll do ya a big favor & take that pot roast off your hands, especially if it's Sauerbraten............................. ;)
