Any tips on saving battery life while using the phone??

There's TONS of threads about battery life issues. The main issue that you'll see the most dramatic increase in life, is Google Talk, named "Talk" in the app list. Go into Talk and go to settings and disable "auto-sign-in". Then make sure you LOG OUT from those same settings. Now you're officially signed out of Talk, and it won't keep signing you in.
Basically, it searches for all your chat friends, and when they change they're status, it drains a little bit of battery each time. I saw a HUGE increase in battery after just doing this one, little, simple thing.

40% does seems a lot when you consider 20 minutes of web surfing. I drop 30% per hour on continuous web surfing. What is your standby time?
Basically my standby time is good. I can get about 24+ hours if I seldom use it.
Continuous use I get 3 to 4 hours before the evo shuts off. If you're getting the same amount of continuous usage time, it should be normal.
I recommend:
a)try to do the same 55 minute routine in some other area to make sure that low 3g signal is not the culpit.
b)turn on the automatic brightness setting
c)buy one of them $10 for 2 battery/charger combos from ebay to see if your oem battery is defective. If you have a spare from a previous HTC phone, then even better.

Sounds like you may have your screen brightness set to 100%. With the screen running constantly while you're surfing it's chewing the max battery. ALL devices (wireless) are like that. That's why with an iPod you get all kinds of hours playing music but when you watch a video it's dead in a couple of hours. Turn down the brightness to 25%. Don't worry, you'll still be able to see everything fine. There's a brightness widget you can download from the app store that makes changing your brightness levels a snap.
