Root ANY Vzw data roaming service

jabq

Newbie
I've tried a couple of ROMs (RCMix3d and Prime3d) and neither roams on VZW for 1x or 3g. I dont mind 1x in this case, as I want to use the phone as GPS on road trips. Both rom's on my recent road trip wouldn't roam, but wife's stock shift and friends VZW phone where on data no problem.

I had a 200 mile stretch of road where my Navigation software showed me driving offroad :) Would like some insight on this!

I tried "Roam only" modes in these two roms and the 1x indicator turns on, but the data comes from Sprint as verified from the speedtest.net website as the ISP. Not even sure how to test to make sure it's working aside from another road trip 100+ miles away.

Thanks!

here's an old thread of vrz prl's... i'm not sure how out dated it is but i know they have been used to force roam on vrz...

FULL 3G PRLs - Oh YEA!

I read through that thread just now. There are a couple of people who have the same issue (voice roam on VZW/data on sprint still). I believe there is more, but only if people where actually checking to see which network they were coming from.

I also dont really need 3g VZW Roaming, I just want the normal 1x.

Thanks!

You could try the vzw prl, just watch your roaming...

I've never had roaming issues (I am always roaming)... CM7, myn's warm 2.2, MIUI, and many others have roamed for me fine....

i use the vzw prl all the time, and its awesome where i live (south dakota). Do you need advice on how to flash it? And there are several prls you can choose from, some hybrid sprint/vzw, others str8 vzw.... lemme know whatchu need and ill try and help you as best i can. evomattnc is a pro in this area as well...

Yes evomatt is pro, but I haven't heard from him in a while. There's another guru that was close to akazabam that has disappeared.

Be careful using a straight vzw prl! Mr. Ed got the boot from Sprint for using too much roaming data. Just a heads up. ;)

I get good sprint service compared to VZW where I am at. Just looking to insure I'm getting 1xx roam on the interstate when out on road trips with a root rom. Last 2 didn't work, and i am finding the stock'ish roms more stable so im trying one now.

Still would like to figure out how to test it without driving 200 miles.

If you're worried about being able to roam while on a road trip, etc., just keep a nandroid backup on your phone of a "good" rom. Keep a version of MikG or even the stock rooted rom on the piece, and just nandroid back to it if you loose service.
I can easily restore a nandroid in 5 minutes or less, no problem.

Try out Mik3D if you like the newer sense versions. It works flawlessly and has 4G because it's based off of a Sprint phone. The evo 3D. ;)

I use an application called Roam Control. It's now back in the market, was removed earlier for Google political reasons. It's always forced me to roam, but like you, speedtest.net shows Sprint even when i've enabled data roaming and have it set to "Roam Only". I emailed the developer last night inquiring about data roaming, as I believe he stated in the Evo 3D forum that it roams data also. I'll post up more info when i hear back. I'm curious to know if there's an app/setting that will easily force data roaming also when needed vs flashing a different PRL.

Please let me know what you find out, this is exactly the info/help i am looking for!
