I keep on reading about people who are putting Android 2.3.4 on their GS2, but I haven't read anything that suggests this can be done by simple download.
I have considered getting a Galaxy S2 and if I did I would more than likely put 2.3.4 on there if it's easy. But since it'd be my first Android phone I dare not root/flash/do anything to it that would risk the safety of the phone or void the warranty.
