im not worried b/c android phones have been out for a while and its not like the pre where its was brand new hardware AND a compleatly new, untested os. I knew what i was getting myself into w/ the pre and i'm not the least bit worried about the EVO when the only main untested thing will be the 4g stuff, and hell if that does not work 100% we can always use 3g untill the bugs get worked out

another thing i'm going to accept is inevitable bad battery life. with my phone being able to do so much, i'm just gonna accept its gonna take a toll on the battery and not be surprised like everyone in the incredible thread.

Everyone is worried about what case to get I'm researching what extended battery to get! I already anticipate the device to have a low battery by mid-day with my heavy daily use, but I plan to put one of those mega 3250mah batteries in there, then you've got a beast in your pocket.

well, comming from the pre and other smartphones in the past, the batt life i can expect, but thats why i have a charger at work, 2 at home and one in the car

Well right now I'm carrying around a Samsung Moment which is almost twice as thick as the Evo so it shouldn't be a big issue for me.
This isnt the same style release as the Palm Pre was.
Pre = New hardware, new OS.
Evo = Proven HTC hardware (HD2), Proven OS (how many android phones now? lol)
As others have said, the only "iffy" factor is the 4G radio.
I don't even live in a 4G market so that point is mostly moot for me. Although I do travel to a few of them on business.

I think the palm pre has serious memory leak issues. We won't know without a task manager, though.
Some days my Pre will go all day long without a hitch. Other days I barely even turn the screen on to check the time and sucker is dead by lunch.

If you're particularly endeavoring and familiar with Linux, just root your phone and you can monitor your memory usage via an SSH or Terminal session.
Having had a Pre for the past year, I wouldn't call the memory leak issues SERIOUS (in the current version), but it is a concerned. Having additional RAM in the Plus variants helps tremendously.
But I'm straying off-topic (mea culpa)... just wanted to clarify that you can get at the information you want - just that no one has bothered to develop a Pre app/front-end for it.
I'll be using a 12 volt battery to extend my phone usage
So I'm not too worried about it's battery life. As long as it doesn't drain my whellchair's batteries dry

Isn't the Moment .63in and the Evo .5in? It's only 1.26x as thick.
I'm not worried about being an early adopter because this phone should be excellent on 3G that Sprint & VZW will be supporting for many years to come. In addition, Sprint's bet pretty significantly on this (similar to ATT with iPhone) so it's in Sprint's best interest to make this work. If Sprint quickly abandons Wimax and this phone, they will pretty much create a problem of immense proportions that would be hard for customers to forgive. I consider my imminent purchase of this phone and switching from ATT more of a 2-yr plan for Sprint to deliver and show what it can do. There will be even faster, more feature-packed phones a year from now so why not be eligible for a Premiere upgrade if there's another gamechanger out there. Sprint's practically made this a no-risk proposition.
I'm hoping for the same experience I had as one of the early adopters of Blu-ray via PS3. I was willing to be on B-R over HDDVD because I knew Sony bet it's future on the underlying tech. While Sprint and Clearwire have publicly hedged, their actions still indicate they're in Wimax to see if it can really take hold. And believe me, if buyers create the market, they'll both stick with it. Can anyone doubt that had B-R not succeed that Sony would have hedged about being able to license and also build HDDVD players? If it meant that was best for business, they would have.

Not my Moment, I'm using a pretty big case, it's almost 1" thick! I just picked up another camera this morning so I'll show you what I mean.
Kinda hard to hold both the camera and the measurement so it's a little lopsided but you get the general idea.
By the time you add the extended battery it still won't be as thick as it is now, especially since I won't use a case for the Evo. I'll have a screen protector and use my trusty pouch which I had back in the touch pro days.

I'm definitely not worried. This is Sprint's and HTC's flagship 4G phone, it will be their superhero phone to pull in more customers, they are going make sure it gets a phenomenal amount of support and iron out all bugs and kinks before launch.

I'm a little concerned about being one of the first to get an EVO. Not so much for the software as far as Android or the hardware because the similar HD2 is already out. I'm more worried about this phone being 3G/4G and if there are going to be any service issues with the radios. But.........I'm still getting the phone lol

HTC has come along ways... I was an early adopter to the original HTC Touch on Sprint way back when and it was by far the worst phone I ever had, the design and functionality was there but the battery lasted oh Id say an hour, especially if you went into roam ... went through 4 of those bad boys before i came out with 2 free Palm Centro's and thats how we became Palm fans (my bf now having the Pre and I went to Android for the Moment)
The Pre has been great especially since we can mod it easy enough thanks to homebrew and quickinstall, but it does have its bugs and we did have to wait for the camcorder release update which was annoying, and other things that should have been included ... yes there were bugs but the one thing that has been solid is the battery, never need to charge it except at night, so I hope this extra large battery on the EVO is well worth it because we all know we are gonna need that extra juice!
Also future updates seem to roll out rather quickly through Palm, hopefully HTC does the same if we need it down the road ...

Well thats b/c they have been adding alot of things that should have been there in the first place (flashing notification LED for Exp.). I too have a pre (and my batt wont last all day unless i turn off most of my syncing stuff and bluetooth and wifi, which i use often and i feel you should not have to worry about cutting things like that on and off all the time just to use it when you DO use it often). Dont get me wrong, I love webOS for alot of things BUT it still has a LOOOOOOOOONG way to go.
AND I dont like the fact that I have to hack my phone just to get it to act the way i want and add things that SHOULD have been there from the get-go (like the flashing LED thing they FINALLY added, but still does not work correctly all the time exp when the phone is plugged into power). BUT If i can put up with all that for a year, i can put of w/ the little quirks that 4g might cause for a little while as well
